Malcolm Stephenson

I am responsible for all or part of the delivery of world scale engineering projects in the energy sector. This includes technical, resource, cost and schedule management. I am currently working on the Gorgon LNG development on which I have responsibility for the inlet systems and carbon capture and storage.

Responsible for integration of sustainable development (SD) within Shell Exploration and Production in Europe. Worked within project teams to inform and facilitate decision-making processes so they integrate and balance a spectrum of sensitive issues. I facilitated Shell’s SD Workshop, co-facilitated the SD Masterclass with Forum for the Future and facilitated numerous workshops and discussions including with "special publics". Worked with the CTO and UK Chair to set up the Energy Technologies Institute.

I established and led the team of 13 engineers who proceeded to deliver all ‘stationary’ equipment to the Woodside LNG Train 4 project. The majority of the purchase orders exceeded US$1million in value and were delivered within extremely ambitious deadlines. Success in this role required: sensitive man management; proactive communication across all disciplines to optimise work flows; and, an ability to assimilate the unexpected.

Achieving an ambition to further my studies and to deepen my knowledge of a key area of interest in the energy industry, my research concentrated on how decision making process in the industry can support sustainability.
