Dr. Markus Bestehorn

I am part of the IoT competence center in EMEA with Amazon Webservices (AWS). My role is serves as an interface between sales and product development for IoT related functionality within the AWS cloud offering.

Reporting to the VP Global Software, I am leading the design & development of Landis+Gyr's global software platforms which consitute the foundation for our software products sold around the world.

Responsible for the development and market introduction of Landis+Gyr Smart Metering and Smart Grid solutions (hardware & software) in Germany (largest market for Smart Metering in EMEA). This work includes multi-project and product management duties for the development of the L+G Smart Meter Gateway (SMGW) and the corresponding Smart Meter Gateway Administrator (GWA). This position requires a broad spectrum of activities ranging from requirements engineering to marketing and portfolio managment.

I work in the research and development group for Load Management in Smart Grids. My main responsibility is the development of new strategies for managing load/energy consumption in smart grids and the integration of these strategies into products of Landis+Gyr.

I am currently responsible for the research related to sensor networks and spatio-temporal query processing at the Institute for Program Structures and Data Organization at the KIT (formerly known as University of Karlsruhe). Lectures/seminars/practical courses related to (distributed) query processing, databases and moving objects databases are conducted by me as well.

As a student and research assistant at the Institute for Program Structures and Data Organization, I participated as a tutor in several database related lectures and practical courses. Aside from teaching, also participated in database research by conducting experiments and supervised the final experiment of the database practical course.

My main task at the department for Health & Bodycare at the Emnid Institute consisted of the integration of market research results into a database. Additionally, I was responsible for automatic processing and visualization of market research results from the aforementioned database.

During my internship at the DHZB I was involved with the IT/Computer Science department. My main tasks consisted of integration/configuration of a SQL database into a WindowsNT network and the administration of the aforementioned network. Additionally, I participated in the development of processing and storage mechanisms for various graphic formats occuring in hospitals, e.g., DICOM.

I was selected to work as a student assistant for the IT department. I contributed to the design, implementation and administration of their campus network. This included the following tasks: 1. Review of requirements with different user types (teachers, students, administration, technical staff); 2. Specification of the required hardware/software; 3. Installation, configuration and maintenance of software/hardware 4. Integration of the existing library system into the campus network
