PhD student (f/m/d) in the field of language education and virtual reality - full-time, fixed term - .

The DFG project "AI-supported, VR-based competence acquisition for future specialists in the field of German as a technical and professional language" addresses key requirements in vocational training and language didactics for future specialists with a migration background using VR and AI. The project investigates the effectiveness of scaffolding and AI chatbots in realistic professional scenarios (e.g., metal and welding technology). The findings will be used for direct application and implementation in vocational training curricula and will contribute to improving the design principles of future immersive learning opportunities.

• Technical development and implementation of a VR-based learning environment
• Integration of AI-driven learning modules
• Creation of industry-specific virtual reality scenarios
• Dissemination of results through publication of scientific papers
• Contribution to academic self-organisation and teaching
• Work on one’s own qualification (dissertation)

• An excellent university degree (Master's, Diploma, or equivalent) in Computer Science or a related technical field (e.g., Interactive Media Systems, Virtual Reality Development, Software Engineering)
• Demonstrable expertise in VR development, preferably using Unity 3D
• Interest in or experience with LLM framework
• Affinity for digital learning environments and knowledge of design principles for immersive media
• Proficiency in English and German
• Excellent communication skills for collaboration with researchers, language educators, and industry partners
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
