Application Scientist, Lab Automation
Über diesen Job
Intro
At BIIE, our automation team drives the future of scalable science by designing and deploying systems that generate high-quality data at speed and with precision. By combining physical automation, digital integration, and strategic consulting, we enable researchers across the organization to focus on solving complex scientific questions instead of repeating manual tasks. As a Research Associate in Lab Automation, you will play a vital role in this mission—helping to transform manual workflows into automated processes, ensuring data is seamlessly captured and reusable, and empowering our teams to answer more research questions with greater efficiency and impact.
Tasks
- Evaluate, develop, optimize methods in the wet lab, laying the foundation for automation workflows.
- Translate manual bench protocols into automation-compatible formats, collaborating with automation scientists to ensure smooth integration.
- Test and validate automated workflows to ensure correct operation, reproducibility, and reliability, suggesting improvements where needed.
- Maintain a detailed electronic lab notebook in Benchling, documenting experiments, results, and process optimizations.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Solid experience with laboratory techniques (molecular biology, cell biology, or related fields).
- At least 2 years of work experience in an interdisciplinary research environment.
- Intermediate skills in python programming and data analysis & visualization.
- Excellent written and spoken communication in English.
- Scientific curiosity to successfully navigate a wide range of different research groups, projects and techniques.
- Ability to adapt to evolving project needs and diverse scientific applications.
The following expertise will be of additional benefit in this role:
- Project management experience in a research or development setting.
- A PhD degree in a relevant field
- Experience implementing automated liquid handling protocols.
- Experience working with Venus, Cellario, Benchling, OpenTrons, Prefect or comparable tools in the lab automation space.
- Familiarity with NGS, antibody expression, screening & characterization, compound screening, mass spectrometry or high content imaging techniques.
Benefits
You’ll work in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary setting, with mentorship and guidance from experienced scientists and our automation team to accelerate your professional growth and development. Along the way, you’ll gain exposure to cutting-edge tools such as Benchling ELN and laboratory automation systems.
Closing
At BIIE, you will be an integral part of our mission to accelerate immune engineering breakthroughs. In this highly hands-on role, you’ll gain deep experience in establishing and optimizing experimental workflows, while shaping how cutting-edge research data is captured in the lab. You will have the opportunity to contribute directly to building the foundation of automated research processes and developing laboratory workflows that drive our labs forward.
