What you will be doing
- Participate in patient recruitment for international multicentre trials, contribute to outpatient clinics, and gain increasing responsibility in the cath lab during valve procedures (TAVI, TEER, TMVR, etc.), based on technical competence
- Spend one day per week in the cath lab, gaining direct involvement in structural heart interventions. Fellows will learn advanced techniques such as pre-procedural CT analysis using dedicated software
- Join Heart Team meetings three times per week, participate in clinical rounds and journal clubs, and contribute to patient management decisions at a consultant level.
- Engage in clinical research within the Cardiovascular Research Institute Basel (CRIB). Fellows will receive mentorship in study design, data collection, analysis, manuscript preparation, and publication
- While not mandatory, fellows may opt to participate in on-call duties to gain additional experience in emergency situations
Your profile
- Completion of core training in Internal Medicine and General Cardiology
- Basic skills in coronary angiography and interventional procedures
- Proficiency in English and German (mandatory); knowledge of French is an asset
- A medical license recognized by the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health (required for clinical duties)
- Candidates must be prepared to contribute to patient care at a consultant level in the cath lab
- Candidates should be highly motivated to engage in both clinical and research activities within the field of structural heart disease
Benefits of this position
- 12-month clinical research fellowship in structural heart disease at the University Heart Center Basel
- The department includes dedicated coronary and structural heart disease catheter laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art fluoroscopy units, covering the full spectrum of contemporary coronary and structural heart interventions
- With an annual caseload of more than 200 TAVIs, and provided that the necessary qualifications are met (recognition of the medical degree by the Federal Office of Public Health and prior cath lab experience), advanced trainees will be allowed hands-on exposure and active involvement in structural heart interventions (e.g. TAVI, TEER, TMVR, TTVR, PFO/ASD closure)
- Fellows are entitled to up to six weeks of annual vacation
- Fellows are encouraged to attend and present at national and international cardiology and interventional cardiology conferences
