The Position
to join the Organoid Systems Biology (OSB) group. This role combines laboratory management with active contributions to research projects. The Lab Manager will oversee laboratory organization and support multiple collaborative research initiatives within the IHB, focusing on the functional characterization and mechanistic analysis of cell behavior in human organoid systems. The experimental branch of the OSB works hand-in-hand with computer scientists who approach these goals using AI and Machine Learning. This position offers an exciting opportunity to help establish and expand an innovative institute that brings together global scientists and engineers at the intersection of academic, translational, and industrial research.
The Opportunity
The Organoid Systems Biology (OSB) group studies the mechanisms of tissue homeostasis and organization in disease development and therapeutic response by integrating state-of-the-art computer science with quantitative molecular cell biology. As the Lab Manager, you will join the OSB’s Molecular Probing Team to develop functional imaging frameworks that probe and analyze the structure of molecular circuits in situ, using organoids as experimentally controllable models of complex tissue physiologies.
Key Responsibilities:
Laboratory Operations: Provide day-to-day support, including the onboarding and training of junior scientists, maintaining lab organization, and coordinating maintenance/cleaning schedules.
Collaboration: Partner with the IHB lab manager community to maximize synergies and operational efficiency across the institute.
Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to health and safety regulations by all laboratory personnel.
Project Oversight: Maintain a strategic overview of research projects and liaise with administrative teams regarding budgets, documentation, and legal agreements.
Scientific Excellence: Facilitate the generation of high-quality data and results suitable for peer-reviewed publication.
Who You Are
APh.D.in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline. Applicants holding anM.Sc.with a minimum of seven years of industry experience and demonstrated expertise in laboratory and people management are also encouraged to apply.
Extensive experience withprimary cell cultureandgene-editing/manipulationtechniques is essential.
A solid foundation inStem Cell BiologyandMolecular Biology.
Experience with organoid models,Protein Engineering, andSpatial Omicsis highly welcomed.
Exceptional organizational, documentation, and communication skills, coupled with a passion for fundamental science and the ability to function effectively in a group setting.
Ability to maintain a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art experimental and analytical methodologies.
Proficiency in designing, executing, and interpreting research results, as demonstrated by a strong publication record.
The capacity to prioritize tasks and maintain a strategic overview while focusing on minute details. You are open-minded, adaptable, and ready to shift gears rapidly in a dynamic environment.
The ability to work autonomously, establish effective professional networks, and build strong working relationships is essential.
Outstanding communication skills, with professional fluency in both spoken and written English.
