JOB DESCRIPTION

At Roche you can show up as yourself, embraced for the unique qualities you bring. Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections, where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position

In Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organization (pRED) , we make transformative medicines for patients in order to tackle some of the world’s toughest unmet healthcare needs. At pRED, we are united by our mission to transform science into medicines. Together, we create a culture defined by curiosity, responsibility and humility, where our talented people are empowered and inspired to bring forward extraordinary life-changing innovation at speed.

We're currently looking for a research associate to assess efficacy, safety and translatability of new therapies in non malignant hematological disorders focusing on hemoglobinopathies. Together with a larger team you will be part of a highly collaborative, international group of research associates and scientists that are developing medicines for the future. In this role, you will primarily work with cell-culture–based in vitro models to characterize and validate therapeutic strategies for anemia. This will require proficiency in cell culture assays and various in vitro techniques, including flow cytometry and qPCR. Occasionally, you will also support studies using preclinical animal models to further assess and validate these therapeutic approaches.

The opportunity

These responsibilities capture a portion of what your work will look like:

  • Work with cell lines, primary cells and tissues including patient-derived material.

  • Evaluate the efficacy and safety of novel therapeutic targets or compounds through genetic manipulation assays, ex vivo differentiation cultures, and various molecular assays (e.g., multi color flow cytometry, qPCR, western blotting).

  • Occasional work with transgenic mouse models to support different projects (compound dosing, tissue collection and processing)

  • Collaboratively design, execute, and interpret data from different studies and contribute to assay optimization.

  • Contribute to data analysis, maintain detailed documentation, and effectively communicate findings to the research team

  • Work closely with all members of the group, share duties, maintain a clean work environment and actively contribute to the positive work atmosphere within the group

Who You Are

You’re someone who is genuinely driven, interested in science and who wants to work in an energetic and efficient team. You show initiative, organize multiple tasks effectively and take pride in delivering results of high quality. You are looking for a company where you receive the opportunity to pursue your interests across functions and geographies. Working in a multicultural environment motivates you. As a fast learner you actively drive the quality of the requirements.

  • Strong "can-do” attitude with a drive to succeed in a dynamic and highly collaborative research team.

  • MSc/BSc in Life Sciences (cellular/ molecular biology, pharmacology, immunology, hematology), or completion of an apprenticeship for a research associate ("Lehrabschluss”) with ≥3 years of academic or industry experience

  • Extensive experience in cell culture and in vitro molecular assays (must have) and relevant industrial work experience is strongly preferred and p rior experience in flow cytometry is a must

  • Authorization to conduct animal experimentation (e.g., active LTK1, FELASA, or equivalent) and prior experience working with rodents (nice to have)

  • Technical and theoretical expertise in immunology/hematopoiesis is a plus

  • High motivation, flexibility, and excellent organizational skills to effectively support the team

  • Relevant industrial work experience is strongly preferred

  • Open and collaborative team spirit and e xcellent data management and record-keeping skills
