The Opportunity
As the Section LeadProcess Science and Data Flow you will support the acceleration of the technical development synthetic molecules pipeline, the manufacture of Drug Substance and Drug Product for clinical studies and launch commercial campaigns. You will lead a high-performing, multidisciplinary team of data scientists, process modelers, process and automation engineers. You will guide the organization towards a successful adoption of innovative capabilities across process design, characterization, scale-up/scale-down, analytical and manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
Advanced Process Modeling and Scale-Up/Scale-Down: Expand cutting-edge process modeling and simulation capabilities. Drive scale-down of chemical processes, including multi-purpose equipment plants. Contribute to regulatory filings.
Data Science & Digitalization: expand data science capabilities.
to enable data-driven decision making. Drive the data and digital roadmap for Synthetic Molecules, acting as a key "Spoke" within the broader Roche Data and Digital "Hub/Spoke" ecosystem.
Data Foundation & Governance: Establish a robust end-to-end data backbone and data foundation. Coordinate the establishment of global standards, data harmonization, and rigorous governance within the function.
Support CAPEX Investments: Support the design and ramp-up of a major green-field facility, implementing a "Lab to Plant" strategy that ensures seamless workflows and real-time data insights between lab scale and manufacturing plants.
Automation: Champion the expansion of industrial process automation and equipment connectivity to advance our Smart Manufacturing and Industry 4.0 objectives.
Innovation and External Ecosystems: Maintain Roche’s position at the forefront of science by fostering strategic partnerships with universities, research consortia, and external innovation partners.
Stakeholder Management, Change Management and Leadership: Actively manage senior stakeholders at corporate and global levels (e.g., global IT/OT, digital, engineering, quality), establishing strong trust, partnership, and a co-creation mindset. Act as a strategic catalyst for change, driving the integration of digital and modeling solutions into CMC (Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls) ways of working. Drive large communities of process modelers and engineers, digital users, data stewards.
Who you are
You are a visionary leaderat the intersection of process engineering, data science and digital innovation.
Educational Background: You hold an advanced degree (Master’s or PhD preferred) in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related technical field.
Proven Leadership: You bring 10+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with a track record of leading diverse teams across functions such as Technical Development, MSAT, Digital, Engineering.
Process engineering and technical development expertise: Demonstrated experience in operations roles in development laboratories and/or manufacturing plant and/or MSAT functions designing, scaling and transferring pharmaceutical processes. You possess deep knowledge of CMC development and related systems and data landscape. Proven experience in advanced process modeling and simulation.
Data and Digital expertise : You have demonstrated experience in data governance, data harmonization, including implementation of global standards in the GxP environment. Experience in the implementation of Industry 4.0 solutions, including automation and Smart Manufacturing is a plus.
CAPEX Excellence: You have a history of contributing to large-scale CAPEX or green-field investment projects (manufacturing, clinical or laboratories)
Continuous Improvement: You have a continuous improvement mindset and you are able to adopt Operational Excellence and Lean Six Sigma methodologies
Strategic Influence: You are a skilled communicator capable of managing senior stakeholders and leading organizational change within complex, global matrix structures. Partnership and co-creation mindset. Excellent written and spoken English; proficiency in German is considered a plus.
