Über diesen Job
Today, Lonza is a global leader in life sciences operating across five continents. While we work in science, there’s no magic formula to how we do it. Our greatest scientific solution is talented people working together, devising ideas that help businesses to help people. In exchange, we let our people own their careers. Their ideas, big and small, genuinely improve the world. And that’s the kind of work we want to be part of. The Global Head of Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) for Advanced Synthesis (ADS) is a key global leadership role accountable for building, harmonizing, and elevating safety performance across the entire ADS site network. This role ensures regulatory and legal compliance worldwide, develops and implements global EHS strategies, and leads cross‑functional efforts to embed best‑in‑class safety practices across chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing environments. The position shapes the future of EHS in ADS by driving proactive, data‑driven, and innovative safety programs that protect our people, our assets, and our communities.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and own global EHS governance for ADS, including definition, approval, and enforcement of EHS policies, standards, and performance frameworks.
Act as the primary global point of contact for EHS topics across all ADS sites, ensuring consistent alignment with Corporate EHS and Group Operations strategies.
Develop and implement global EHS concepts, programs, and risk‑mitigation strategies in collaboration with site and functional stakeholders.
Lead and inspire a global matrix team of process safety, explosion protection, and EHS professionals, ensuring legal requirements are translated into practical, sustainable practices.
Manage and coach EHS managers globally, fostering a harmonized, proactive, and inclusive safety culture across all ADS facilities.
Drive compliance excellence through robust audit support, incident investigations, corrective‑action leadership, and continuous improvement programs.
Analyze global EHS performance data and trends, identifying opportunities to strengthen safety and reduce operational risk.
Influence senior executives on safety risks, regulatory impact, and strategic decisions affecting global ADS operations.
Serve as the critical interface between ADS and core EHS functions, enabling alignment, compliance, and shared learning across all sites.
Key Requirements:
University degree in Chemistry, Engineering (Master level), or equivalent life‑science education. Safety engineering is an advantage.
10+ years of experience in EHS and leadership roles within chemical or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Deep understanding of cGMP operations, process safety, and advanced safety risk‑management concepts.
Exceptional communication and stakeholder‑management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels, including senior executives.
Strong business acumen with proven ability to align EHS strategies to organizational objectives.
Demonstrated ability to lead global teams, inspire a strong safety culture, and drive continuous improvement.
Comfortable navigating complex matrix environments and managing ambiguity with resilience and clarity.
Proficiency in digital EHS platforms (e.g., Intelex or equivalent)
The ideal location of this job is in Basel, Switzerland. Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates and their families, if needed.
