About us
We are working with a leading engineering organisation seeking a skilled Electrical Technician with strong experience in Medium Voltage (MV) switchgear systems.
In this role, you will be responsible for testing, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of MV equipment both in a workshop environment and on-site.
This position is ideal for someone who is hands-on, detail-oriented, and safety-focused, with flexibility to travel when required.
Tasks
Key Responsibilities
• Carry out electrical testing of MV switchgear, including:
Dielectric testing
Mechanical testing
Leak testing
Contact resistance measurements
Primary & secondary injection
Relay testing
Partial discharge diagnostics
• Perform commissioning, preventive maintenance, and corrective repairs on MV switchgear and protection systems
• Diagnose and resolve faults within MV electrical systems
• Ensure full compliance with safety standards and industry regulations
• Prepare detailed test and service reports
• Provide on-site technical support during installation and system integration
• Collaborate with engineering teams to improve system performance and reliability
Profile
• Completed technical training or degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or similar
• Proven experience working with MV or HV systems (10kV+) – ideally switchgear, but also open to transformers, motors, or coils
• Hands-on experience with testing and commissioning of MV switchgear is highly desirable
• Familiarity with testing equipment such as OMICRON, Megger, or similar
• Knowledge of protection systems (relays, CTs, PTs, circuit breakers, interlocks) is beneficial
• Good English skills (German is a plus, not essential)
• Strong problem-solving and fault-finding ability
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
• Valid EU work authorisation
• Willingness to travel (approx. up to 15%, domestic & international)
