Internship Electrical Engineering / Mechatronics for open science scientific instruments

LABmaker is a brand of PhenoSys GmbH that builds scientific instruments and sells them worldwide. We are, a young Berlin-based start-up company and a maker and producer for OPEN SCIENCE instruments. Open Science initiatives provide designs for openly available scientific instruments. LABmaker bridges the gap for those who want the ready-to-use instrument.

We are looking for a sharp, self-motivated, problem-solving student of Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics who will contribute and build technical expertise while enthusiastically working to further develop the progressive and growing company. We offer an unpaid internship position for a "Studentisches Pflichtpraktikum” that is required by your university as part of your curriculum. Your major task will be to build an open source prototype instrument (80%), and the minor task is to help with company operations (20%). The main place of work will be in central Berlin (Berlin-Mitte, Luisenstraße).

Your Tasks:

• Handling the product development process, including design reviews, prototyping, testing and conducting assembly trials
• Organize resolution of technical product issues (if any) in a structural way
• Analyze and improve existing PCB and 3D designs
• Communicate and work with original developers of open source devices coming from top academic institutions in the world
• Organize & administrate 3rd party manufacturing
• Product documentation and continuous improvement of ongoing production processes

Your Profile:

• Full-time registered student in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related field
• Minimum 2 years of experience in handling technical projects, working in a team
• High level of experience with EDA tools, such as Altium, Eagle, KiCad
• Preferably experience with 3D CAD systems such as Autodesk Inventor
• High ability to understand PCB designs, schematics and layout
• Motivated and proactive individual, who likes to work in an agile environment
• Team player with great communication skills who believes in cost optimization and reducing complexities
• Proficiency in English; preferably knowledge of German
