We invite applications for a highly talented postdoctoral researcher to join the Muscle Research Unit with Outpatient Clinic for Muscle Disorders at the Experimental and Clinical Research Center (ECRC) in Berlin, Germany. The ECRC is part of the largest university hospital in Europe – the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin – and the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in the Helmholtz Association (MDC).
Our lab is developing gene and cell therapies for muscle wasting disorders. We combine stem cell research, CRISPR technologies, novel humanized mouse models of neuromuscular disorders and state-of-the-art delivery technologies for nucleic acid therapeutics, as well as research on disease mechanisms (see our publications here). Our team is at the forefront of bringing autologous cell replacement therapies with CRISPR-edited muscle stem cells towards the clinic ( https://www.mdc-berlin.de/news/news/deep-expertise-and-bold-vision-myopax-launches-berlin ).

Overview of the position
- The advertised position focuses on developing gene editing therapies for Anoctamin 5 (ANO5)-related muscular dystrophy
- You will conduct independent and collaborative research of high international quality within the project’s scope
- You will be employed as a research associate: According to §110 (4), sentence 3 of the BerlHG, research staff are entitled to an appropriate amount of time during working hours for their own scientific further qualification
What we are looking for
- PhD in life/natural sciences (cell biology, molecular biology, genetics or related field)
- Fluent in English, written and spoken
- Strong motivation to produce excellent science with a translational focus
- Good organizational skills
- Experience in stem cell research, skeletal muscle biology, neuromuscular disorders, gene therapy and/or genome engineering/editing (in particular with CRISPR systems) is highly desirable
