The position is part of the sociological research project "Embracing Capital – Normative and Legal changes towards a capitalization of ownership in companies”. This project pursues the goal of analyzing a structural change in corporate ownership from the beginning of the Federal Republic of Germany until today (1949-2024). The research is guided by the basic assumption that ownership of companies is increasingly organized through corporations, which is referred to as "capitalization”. In order to better understand this structural change, three structural levels are examined in more detail: What shifts in company law can be identified with regard to corporations? To what extent are capital owners normatively contested as subjects of corporate ownership? In what way and to what extent have corporations spread? The project is led by Prof. Dr. Isabell Stamm and is part of the SfB Transregio 294 "Structural Change of Ownership”.

Tasks:

• You will carry out research tasks in the project ‘Embracing Capital’ with a focus on the changing structures of corporations
• You will be responsible for building a dataset based on commercial register entries and shareholder lists stored in the commercial register using automated queries and data extraction
• You will analyse the data set using sequence analysis and multivariate statistics
• Presentation of findings at academic conferences and write-up of findings for peer-reviewed journal

• Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in sociology, social sciences or economics.
• Completed Doctorate by the start of the position at the latest
• Strong interest in legal and economic sociology
• Proven experience in quantitative empirical social research
• Confident handling of at least one statistical software (e.g. R)
• Confident handling of the structure of quantitative data sets
• Knowledge of web scraping and programming
• Experience in writing scientific publications
• Good command of German and/or English required; willingness to learn either English or German is expected
• Strong communication skills desirable
• Independent and committed way of working desirable
• Willingness to participate regularly in events organised by the SfB Strukturwandel des Eigentums is a plus
