The Museum für Naturkunde Berlin (MfN) is an excellent and integrated research museum of the Leibniz Association with an international reputation and globally networked research infrastructure. It is active in three closely interlinked fields: collection-based research, collection development and cataloguing, and research-based public and educational work. Over the next ten years, the Museum für Naturkunde will realise its plan for the future. New laboratories and jobs for cutting-edge research will be created. At the same time, one of the world's most comprehensive natural history collections with over 30 million objects will be housed in modern collection buildings and completely digitized in the process. The implementation of the Future Plan, funded with a total of 660 million euros from the Federal Government and the State of Berlin, will only succeed with strong interdisciplinary national and international partners.

Your tasks

• Researching and establishing the scientific data infrastructure at the MfN and embedding it in the national and international research data infrastructure landscape (including initiatives such as the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI), Open Collection, Information and Research Infrastructure (OSIRIS), Distributed System of Scientific Collections (DiSSCo))
• Strategic and thematic conception of the data architecture and data flows (with a focus on research data), with consideration of national and international standards and developments, as well as conceptual guidance of cross-project software developments in the field of biodiversity informatics
• Strategic and content-related representation of the MfN in national and international committees and consortia on biodiversity and geoinformatics as well as research data management
• Acquisition and coordination of third-party funded projects, personnel and project management

Your profile

• Completed scientific university degree in engineering or natural sciences, computer science, or a degree program that includes aspects of these disciplines, or at least 5 years of professional experience in the aforementioned areas and participation in corresponding reference projects
• Proof of active scientific publication activity
• Very good knowledge and practical experience in the management, archiving, quality assurance and networking of scientific data, particularly in the areas of bio- and geodiversity
• Good knowledge and practical experience in the strategic conception of data flows and data standards
• very good knowledge and practical experience in the field of identifier systems, data publishing and archiving
• practical experience in the analysis of linked open data, semantic web or ontology development
• very good knowledge and practical experience in designing the architecture of data infrastructures and IT applications
• Good knowledge of methods, process models and their application in software development processes
• Knowledge of at least one high-level programming language (e.g. C#, C++, Java)
• good knowledge of applying for and carrying out third-party funded scientific projects
• comprehensive practical experience in writing progress reports and project documentation
• good knowledge of the statistical analysis of data
• Independent and structured working style
• good communication and presentation skills
• very good written and spoken German and English skills
