Pfizer is seeking a highly skilled and driven computational biologist with a deep understanding of Nextflow pipeline development and research data engineering. This is a unique opportunity to join a pioneering team at the forefront of multi-omics innovation, where you will help shape the future of data-driven drug discovery.
We are looking for someone who thrives at the intersection of bioinformatics, software engineering, and large-scale data integration, and who is passionate about building scalable, reproducible, and production-ready solutions for omics data analysis.
What You Will Achieve
In this role, you will:
Lead the design, development, and optimization of Nextflow-based pipelines for scalable and reproducible omics data processing.
Architect and implement a robust omics data platform to support high-throughput analysis and integration of multi-modal datasets.
Collaborate with machine learning experts to integrate advanced ML methods into omics workflows.
Curate, harmonize, and integrate internal and public omics datasets to support hypothesis generation across the drug discovery pipeline.
Develop and maintain ETL frameworks and data dissemination strategies for omics data.
Drive the adoption of best practices in data engineering, pipeline versioning, and workflow orchestration.
Engage with external partners and contribute to Pfizer’s omics data strategy.
Foster community engagement through onboarding, workshops, hackathons, and scientific talks.
Publish and present your work in high-impact journals and conferences to strengthen Pfizer’s scientific leadership.
What You Bring (Minimum Requirements)
PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related field, with 5+ years of experience in research data engineering or computational biology.
Expert-level proficiency in Nextflow and workflow management systems for large-scale omics data processing.
Strong background in data integration, curation, and analysis of NGS, single-cell, proteomics, or functional genomics datasets.
Proven experience in Python development, including scientific libraries and full-stack engineering.
Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL, ETL pipelines, and data modeling for research applications.
Demonstrated ability to work with large, heterogeneous datasets in a drug discovery context.
Strong publication record and a passion for translating data into actionable insights.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Bonus Points If You Have
Experience with front-end technologies (TypeScript, ReactJS) and browser-based visualization.
Familiarity with AI/ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, Lightning) and LLMs/RAG systems.
Expertise in cloud-native architectures, CI/CD, and software engineering best practices.
