Your Role at hellomateo

As a Senior Product Engineer, you’ll work end-to-end on features used daily by a wide range of customers — from local craftsmen to enterprise teams in service and marketing.

You’ll operate across dynamic communication workflows, build scalable APIs, optimize large data streams, and craft interfaces that make complex messaging beautifully simple.

In short: You’re not just building features — you’re building the experience that delivers real value to our customers.

Aufgaben

• End-to-end product development: Own features from concept and architecture to implementation, testing, and continuous iteration after launch.
• Backend development with Node.js & GraphQL: Design and build scalable APIs and services that power complex messaging and automation workflows.
• Work in a modern tech stack: Supabase, PostgreSQL, Redis, Cloudflare Workers, Next.js, Tailwind, and Docker form the foundation for stable and high-performance product areas.
• Product & UX collaboration: Translate complex workflows and business logic into intuitive, user-friendly experiences.
• Cross-functional teamwork: Work closely with Product, Design, Customer Success, and the Founders to deliver solutions that create real customer impact.

Qualifikation

• 4+ years of experience in Product or Software Engineering, ideally in a startup environment with feature ownership and end-to-end responsibility.
• Strong backend expertise: Confident in designing and developing scalable APIs with Node.js and GraphQL.
• Familiar with a modern tech stack: Experience with Supabase, PostgreSQL, Redis, Cloudflare Workers, Next.js, Tailwind, and Docker (or the ability to learn quickly).
• Strong product & UX instincts: Able to translate technical requirements into meaningful user flows.
• High ownership mindset: You enjoy making decisions, pushing topics independently, and taking responsibility for outcomes.
• Excellent communication & collaboration skills: Clear in alignment, proactive in problem-solving, effective across teams.
• Proven product impact: Experience building new features/products or making significant contributions to existing systems.
• Clean & structured engineering approach: Focus on code quality, maintainability, architecture, and sustainable product development.

Although we have an international and largely remote product team, this role is explicitly hybrid. You should be based in or around Berlin and able to come to the office regularly. We can stay flexible on the exact frequency.
