Student employee (m/f/d)

Working at Charité

The position is part of an interdisciplinary project of working groups B02 (Prof. Dr. Witzenrath/Prof. Dr. Seeberger) and C05N (Prof. Dr. Lauster/Prof. Dr. Hackenberger) in the Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 1449, the goal of which is the visualization and functional blockade of glycan-mediated bacterial adhesion using mucoadhesive protein-antibody bioconjugates. The student employee will be expected to perform supporting tasks in the laboratory as part of the project, according to instructions and established workflows, under close supervision. The position involves working in an S2 laboratory and handling cells and proteins of risk groups 1 & 2, as well as samples of human origin.

The CRC is administered by the Department of Biology, Chemistry, and Pharmacy at Freie Universität Berlin; employment is at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin. The position is based at three locations where different activities are to be carried out, with a focus on one main place of work:

  • Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin - Campus MItte (main place of work)
  • Freie Universität Berlin - Department of Biology, Chemistry, and Pharmacy in Dahlem
  • Leibniz Research Institute for Molecular Pharmacology (FMP) - Research Campus Berlin-Buch

Overview of the position

Your main tasks are:

  • Expression and purification of proteins in E. coli
  • Maintenance of 2D and 3D primary human cell culture workflows based on established protocols

What we are looking for

  • Basic experience with cell culture maintenance and sterile working techniques
  • Basic knowledge of general molecular biology techniques, including protein expression and purification
  • Knowledge of good scientific practice and laboratory practice (GSP & GLP)
  • Willingness to switch between working groups at three different locations in Berlin (Mitte, Buch, Dahlem)
  • Good English skills (spoken and written)

Due to the work with primary cells of human origin, it is advisable to have additional vaccination protection against hepatitis A and B.
