IoT Solutions/Hardware Integration Engineer (m/f/d) – Erlangen
We are growing rapidly in the areas of hardware integration, special solutions, IoT edge development, and system connectivity—and are looking for an engineer who understands technology, connects systems, and speaks hardware. As an Internet of Things Solutions/Hardware Integration Engineer in Erlangen, you will ensure that existing customer systems , special hardware, and new IoT components work seamlessly with our platform. Not as a field technician — but as an engineer, integrator, problem solver, and interface architect .
Your tasks - what you do with us:
Hardware integration & special solutions
- Development and implementation of customer-specific hardware integrations (barriers, access systems, vending machines, sensors, cameras, payment modules).
- Reverse engineering and analysis of existing hardware at the customer's site: protocols, signals, triggers, control logic.
- Implementation of hardware controls (relays, GPIO, RS485, CAN, HID, potential-free contacts, digital/analog signals).
IoT & Embedded Engineering
- Configuration, testing, and integration of edge devices (Linux-based systems, embedded controllers).
- Development of smaller tools/scripts (Python, Bash) for automation, diagnostics, and test support.
- Collaboration on deployments for IoT device fleets (edge updates, remote configuration, monitoring).
Interfaces & System Connectivity
- Connection of standard hardware (e.g., payment terminals, ticket machines, camera systems) via API, SDK, protocols.
- Technical clarifications with manufacturers, suppliers, and integration partners.
- Support with tenders, feasibility analyses, and technical concepts.
Analysis, prototyping, testing
- Construction of test setups, test adapters, and integration environments.
- Systematic error analysis: hardware, firmware, network, data flow.
- Validation of new devices, modules, and protocols.
Cross-team collaboration
- Close collaboration with product management, backend, field service, tech support, and partners.
- Documentation, knowledge building, and further development of our hardware standards.
Your profile – what you should bring to the table
- Electrical engineering, mechatronics, embedded technology, automation, and/or
- Information electronics, device systems, vending machine or security technology, and/or
- IoT system integration, hardware interfaces, edge development
- Experience with hardware connections and interfaces : RS232/485, TCP/IP, GPIO, relays, CAN, Modbus, API/REST, MQTT, etc.
- Linux fundamentals on embedded or edge systems.
- Good knowledge of Python or a similar scripting language.
- Experience with cameras, sensor technology, payment terminals, or vending machines ( nice to have)
- Technical diagnostic and problem-solving skills (analytical, structured).
- You are a doer who understands how hardware and software work together.
- You enjoy working independently, developing prototypes, and thinking in terms of systems.
- You try things out, measure, test, document — and find solutions that work.
- You are a strong communicator, team-oriented, and curious.
