PhD Position in molecular neuroscience
Extrinsic and intrinsic regulation of myelination in the central nervous systemA PhD position is available in the group of Dr. Tim Aberle at the Institute of Biochemistry (Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg), starting September 2025.
Ihre Aufgaben
We are working on extrinsic and intrinsic regulation of the myelination process in the central nervous system, where defects in the development of oligodendrocytes, the myelin producing cell of the central nervous system, can lead to devastating diseases such as multiple sclerosis or epilepsy. This project will analyze the role of G-protein coupled receptors and extrinsic and intrinsic calcium signals during myelination using histological, molecular biology, biochemical, and high throughput sequencing techniques. Additionally, many analyses involve the use of primary cell culture, organotypic brain cultures, or transgenic/knockout mouse models.
Ihr Profil
Notwendige Qualifikationen:
We are looking for an interested and motivated candidate with an excellent masters degree in life sciences, biochemistry, biology, molecular medicine, molecular neuroscience, or equivalent fields of study. Fluent oral and written English language skills are required (minimum CEFR level: B2).
Wünschenswerte Qualifikationen:
Experience in neurosciences and practical experience in standard molecular biology, cell culture, and histology techniques are desired.
