Our cloud platform team is focused on creating corporate-wide solutions that will drive the next generation of B. Braun’s digital products and connected devices. We are looking for a Head of Computer Vision and AI for you team at B. Braun New Ventures in Freiburg.
Duties and responsabilities:
- Develop a platform and associated software for digital surgery, combining sensors, imaging, navigation, robotics, and AI technologies
- Deliver high-quality solutions that comply with medical standards in the field of Computer Vision and AI, spanning pre-development, validation, market introduction, and product maintenance
- Collaborate with other Heads to design the future technologies of our surgical robotics platform
- Own and develop the strategy for introducing technologies in the field of Computer Vision and AI, whether developed internally or with partners
- Contribute to system and enterprise architecture decisions as part of the architecture team, focusing on technology readiness for future products
- Shape the technology and product strategy of the company as part of the governance team
- Create well-structured and maintainable software components using state-of-the-art software design approaches
- Work on sensor selection, calibration, and integration
- Lead a team of software engineers in the field of Computer Vision and AI, including hiring, onboarding, coaching, and goal setting
- Work closely with the team, providing both technical contributions and leadership
- Scout the technology market and import knowledge to ensure our competencies in Computer Vision and AI remain state-of-the-art
- Be a key contributor to building a strong IP portfolio for our platform
- Partner with other B. Braun Units to mutually share expertise in the fields of AI and Computer Vision
Professional competencies:
- Extensive experience in machine learning and computer vision, with deep understanding of network architectures including CNNs, RNNs, and LLMs
- Proven ability to train, fine-tune, and deploy these models in production environments, with a strong track record of innovating and adapting network architectures to meet specific application needs
- Demonstrated expertise in complex medical technologies such as surgical robotics, navigation systems, and medical image processing
- Skilled in both traditional computer vision techniques—including camera calibration and geometric algorithms—and modern ML-based approaches
- Advanced proficiency in C++ and Python, with hands-on experience in developing robust, scalable software solutions
- Solid background in requirements engineering and system design, particularly within highly regulated domains such as medical devices, aerospace, or automotive
- Academic foundation ideally includes a PhD in artificial intelligence, computer vision, robotics, medical image analysis, or a closely related field
- Practical knowledge of deploying neural networks on edge devices, including techniques like federated learning, is highly desirable
- Leadership experience in guiding interdisciplinary teams and driving innovation is considered a strong asset
- Familiarity with NVIDIA technologies such as TensorRT, and understanding of AI regulatory guidelines for medical products, further enhances suitability for this roll
- Hands-on experience with technologies including C++, Python, Qt, PyTorch, OpenCV, ROS2, GTest/GMock, Git, Azure DevOps, Linux, and RT Linux is advantageous
