Linux Systems Engineer (100%)

Your Role

As a systems engineer in the operations team, you will operate and monitor the Threema services and help build the infrastructure behind them. Your work keeps our systems secure, reliable, and scalable – protecting the privacy of millions of people. Our infrastructure is built on open source technologies, and we expect you to feel at home in this ecosystem.

Your Tasks

• Maintenance of a virtualization environment (Proxmox) and administration of virtual servers

• Administration of Linux-based systems (RHEL); FreeBSD knowledge is a plus

• Operation, maintenance and further development of our infrastructure (services, networking, monitoring and alerting)

• Deployment and maintenance of containerized applications

• Management of our CI/CD infrastructure (GitLab CI) in collaboration with our developers

• Participation in 7×24 on-call duty

Your Skills

Technical experience:

• At least 5 years of professional experience in a similar role

• Experience with server virtualization

• Expertise in IT security (VPN, firewall, system hardening, etc.)

• Experience with installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of Linux-based systems

• Knowledge of automation and config-as-code solutions

• Experience with monitoring solutions

• Experience with OCI containers (Docker, Podman) and ideally experience with container orchestration

• Experience with databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL is a plus

• Experience with managing CI/CD infrastructure (especially GitLab CI) is a plus

Soft skills:

• High level of awareness with regards to IT security and privacy

• Strong sense of responsibility and attention to detail

• Willingness to learn new technologies and concepts

• Good written and spoken German and English (at least B2)
