You’ll make an impact by

  • Developing a prototype Industrial Virtual Switch (IvS) for virtual PLC deployments
  • Implementing support for industrial automation and safety protocols (e.g., PROFIsafe)
  • Conducting extensive benchmarking against state-of-the-art cloud switches
  • Identifying and optimizing performance bottlenecks for latency and jitter reduction
  • Ensuring guaranteed throughput for industrial applications
  • Deploying and testing the prototype in Siemens' Industrial Edge platform
  • Contributing to the evolution of industrial automation through IT/OT convergence

Your success is grounded in

  • Education
    • Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • Experience & Skills
    • Strong Linux knowledge and system-level programming
    • Advanced networking expertise
    • Proficient programming skills in C
    • Understanding of industrial automation principles
    • Experience with DPDK is a plus
    • Familiarity with virtualization technologies
  • Ways of working
    • Analytical and systematic approach to complex problems
    • Independent and result-oriented work style
    • Strong documentation and presentation skills
    • Ability to work in an innovative research environment
  • Languages
    • Fluent German and English communication skills (both written and spoken)
