The Junior R&D Engineer will be instrumental in developing advanced implantable electrodes that aim to revolutionize the way we interface with the nervous system. This position requires an individual who can work independently and creatively to support the design, develop, and validate next generation neurotechnology solutions. The Junior R&D Engineer will work closely with the Lead R&D Engineer and manufacturing team, in both a laboratory and cleanroom environment.

Tasks

Research and Development

•Design, develop, and manufacture prototypes for both implantable medical devices and advanced implantable electrodes.

•Provide support for the design, development, and testing of novel implantable electrode prototypes.

•Support feasibility studies for new design concepts and support material selection and manufacturing process development.

•Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate the clinical, functional, and manufacturing implications of design choices.

•Stay updated with technological advances in the field and leverage this knowledge to drive innovation.

•Support Verification & Validation (V&V) testing activities, including development of test setups, execution of bench testing, data analysis, and documentation to ensure compliance with design specifications.

Quality Assurance and Documentation

•Provide technical support for documentation tasks, including writing design specifications, manufacturing instructions, and test plans.

•Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate the clinical, functional, and manufacturing implications of design decisions.

Manufacturing and Support

•Execute production activities within a cleanroom environment, adhering to strict protocols and quality standards.

Professional Responsibility

•Uphold professional standards by maintaining a commitment to quality, regulatory compliance, and ongoing education.

Requirements

Education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (ex. HES) or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field required.
  • At least 2 years of hardware experience in the field of neurotechnology, biomedical engineering, or a related discipline. Recent graduates with a strong hardware project portfolio that showcases excellence in these areas are welcome to apply.
  • Hands-on experience working in an ISO 13485-compliant cleanroom environment.
  • Proven experience working with interdisciplinary teams in a fast-paced, innovative, and adaptive environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and development of implantable medical devices is an asset.
  • Experience in an ISO 13485 environment and knowledge of US requirements (e.g. 21 CFR 820) are an asset.
  • Practical experience with PDMS processing and associated techniques (e.g., blade coating, spin coating, and related microfabrication processes).
  • Experience with molding processes and related fabrication techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with wire bonding techniques.
  • Experience with photolithography processes.
  • Fluent in French and English (written and spoken). German is an asset.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge in the areas of materials, electronics, and/or microfabrication techniques.
  • Strong understanding of PDMS-based systems and microfabrication workflows.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and innovative thinking.
  • Strong hands-on skills in experimental design, fabrication, and validation of prototypes.
  • Experience and knowledge of electrochemistry.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present complex technical information. Ability to thrive in an independent as well as a collaborative, team-oriented, and challenging environment.
  • Dedication to staying current with new technologies, scientific advances, and industrial trends in the field of neurotechnology.
  • Attention to detail and precision in work.
  • Proficiency in documenting all work reliably and accurately as per QMS standards.
