Electronics Engineer (TE-MPE-MP-2025-182-GRAE)

Your responsibilities

Are you a passionate Electronics Engineer who would like to participate in the development, manufacturing and tests of electronic equipment related to the quench protection systems for the superconducting magnets of the largest and most complex particle accelerator? Take part!

In the Technology (TE) department, within the Machine Protection and Electrical Integrity (MPE) group, you will work on the protection of the superconducting magnets of the LHC accelerator, looking after the energy extraction systems which are activated in case of magnet quench.

You will be involved in the development, validation and installation of highly reliable micro-electronic and power-electronic equipment for the control of these energy extraction systems. Particularly, the 13kA Energy Extraction System upgrade will be one of these systems. The work will include the design of printed circuit boards (PCB), prototype manufacturing as well as assembly, integration and test of the control units, including the associated components procurement. You will participate in various electrical/electronic measurements, hardware commissioning, individual system test and equipment qualification tests.

Your profile

Skills:

  • Background in electronics and-or electrical/electromechanical;
  • Experience in electronic circuit design and validation, electrical measurements, testing and material procurement;
  • Experience with PCB design and prototyping, electronic/electrical simulation software, DAQ systems and result analysis would be an advantage;
  • Self-motivation, enthusiasm and ability to work within a team;
  • Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Electrical/Electronics Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.

About us

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.

Diversity has been an integral part of CERN's mission since its foundation and is an established value of the Organization. Employing a diverse workforce is central to our success.
