Maintenance Support Technician (TE-CRG-ML-2025-183-GRAE)
Your responsibilities
Come and join the cryogenics maintenance team within the Technology Department (TE), specifically within the Maintenance Methods and Logistics section. We're offering a unique opportunity to work and contribute to the preparation of the next maintenance technical shutdown and integration of new major assets in the maintenance systems.
CERN is the world's largest particle physics laboratory and its flagship accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider, depends on having an unrivalled set of cryogenic systems on hand to guarantee reliable operation.
Typical cryogenic systems comprise compressors, heat exchangers, valves, instrumentation, vacuum pumps, controls and various test benches for cables, magnets and RF cavities. Process gas purity is essential.
The experience you will gain as a member of the cryogenics maintenance team could not be acquired anywhere else, teaching you to work autonomously and address maintenance solution to large and complex systems. Be part of a team which oversees the organisation of the long shutdown 3 for cryogenics infrastructure and needs your inputs to:
- Collecting and consolidating maintenance data within the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) - Supporting the preparation and coordination of maintenance activities on-site.
- Rolling out new maintenance methodologies in collaboration with field technicians.
- Enhancing work instructions, checklists, and quality assurance procedures used by contractors.
- Contributing to the implementation of maintenance policies and best practices for new cryogenic assets as part of the HL-LHC (High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider) project.
Take this opportunity to work on one of the most advanced cryogenic systems in the world and make your mark on a project of global scientific importance.
Your profile
Skills:
- Basic mechanical and electrical skills;
- Experience using Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS);
- Knowledge of cryogenics fundamentals or oil and gas systems would be an advantage;
- Ability to read technical drawings;
- Understanding of maintenance documentation;
- Demonstrated teamwork, safety awareness, and problem-solving;
- Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language.
Eligibility criteria:
- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanical/Electromechanical Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is a general secondary education diploma.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
- Applicants with a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree are not eligible.

About us
At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
Diversity has been an integral part of CERN's mission since its foundation and is an established value of the Organization. Employing a diverse workforce is central to our success.
