Are you an enthusiastic science educator who feels comfortable interacting with diverse audiences?

Join the CERN Science Gateway education team as a science educator to facilitate science shows and hands-on workshops!

CERN has an opening for an Early Career Graduate in the Teacher & Student Programmes (TSP) Section in the Education, Communications and Outreach (ECO) group in the International Relations (IR) sector.

CERN Science Gateway is an education and outreach facility with the aim to enable people of all ages and backgrounds to engage in the discoveries, the science and the technologies of CERN.

CERN Science Gateway's educational activities include:

  • lab workshops that allow visitors aged 5+ years to explore their scientific curiosity by learning how to conduct scientific investigations;
  • interactive science shows that allow visitors to explore the exciting stories and scientific methods behind major advances in science and technology.

Functions:

As a junior science educator, you will:

  • Facilitate hands-on science workshops for diverse groups of learners in the education labs.
  • Perform captivating science experiments on stage in the context of science shows.
  • Contribute to the design and improvement of our educational activities and materials.
  • Develop and coordinate special activities during science events.
  • Support the day-to-day operations of the education team, including ordering supplies and liaising with technical staff.

Your profile

Skills:

  • Experience in science education.
  • Experience with young learners aged 5-12 years is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills and ability to adjust to different audiences.
  • Experience in science communicating to diverse audiences is an asset.
  • Fast learner - capable of grasping rapidly and effectively new concepts.
  • Desire and ability to work in a team within a large international organisation.
  • Sound working knowledge of French and English; any other language is an asset.
  • Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language.
  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Science education, STEM or other related (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
  • Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.

Additional Information

Job closing date: 27.08.2025 at 23:59 CEST.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

Working hours: 40 hours per week

Target start date: 01-September-2025

This position involves:

  • Stand-by duty, when required by the needs of the Organisation.
  • Work during nights, Sundays and official holidays, when required by the needs of the Organisation.

What we offer

  • A monthly stipend ranging between 5196 and 5716 Swiss Francs (net of tax).
  • Coverage by CERN's comprehensive health scheme (for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund.
  • Depending on your individual circumstances: installation grant; family, child and infant allowances; payment of travel expenses at the beginning and end of contract.
  • 30 days of paid leave per year.
  • On-the-job and formal training at CERN as well as in-house language courses for English and/or French.
