About us: As a research-oriented division of the Department of Animal Science, we work primarily on sustainable, consumer-oriented and socially acceptable ways for the production of food of animal origin. The focus is on nutritional, sensory and technological quality assessment. We have modern laboratories for the physico-chemical characterization of food, including HPLC, GC-FID and GC-MS, texture analysis, NIR and MIR spectroscopy, hyperspectral imaging and a modern sensory laboratory. Current research addresses, for example, the preservation of genetic diversity in farm animals, the use of alternative feedstuffs to avoid feed/food competition, climate change mitigation, and the improvement of animal welfare during husbandry and slaughter.
What we offer: As part of our diverse team, you will have the opportunity to research into the fields of product quality and authenticity, animal health and welfare, and sustainable animal feeding strategies. You will have freedom to further develop your personal portfolio and skills, and your further scientific qualification (i.e., habilitation) is desired and actively supported. This also includes the opportunity to take part in the university didactics certificate course. The position allows quite flexible working hours including the option of mobile work. There is the option of an additional company pension scheme (VBL) and you will receive various employee benefits. Lower Saxony also offers the possibility of educational leave (5d/calendar year). Job profile: In this position, your main responsibilities will be to set up and conduct laboratory and field experiments to assess the effects of diet, breed or management on the quality of primary animal products (e.g. meat, fish, milk and honey). You will also develop laboratory protocols, participate in teaching activities at undergraduate, master’s and doctoral level, supervise undergraduate and master’s students, and contribute to developing new project proposals.
Ideally, your strengths are curiosity, commitment and execution skills, i.e. you are able to develop solutions and implement them effectively. Your ability to grasp new concepts swiftly, coupled with your hands-on approach, makes you a valuable asset to our team. Your conscientious and responsible work ethic sets you apart. Your communication skills are strong, and you display a positive attitude towards collaboration.
Recruitment requirements are: at least three years of hands-on research experience in a relevant field, e.g. animal nutrition, animal physiology/ biochemistry or food chemistry as evidenced by your publication record, a relevant M.Sc. degree (e.g., in animal science, food science) achieved with a minimum of a good pass, and good to very good command of English which is required for effective communication within the team and for publications.
Desirable qualifications are profound knowledge in animal science and/or in the field of instrumental analysis of food products. A doctorate/Ph.D. in this field is desirable but not mandatory. Particularly, experience in gas chromatography is highly appreciated.
