TheAdult Education Career Advisor supports adult learners in identifying andpursuing employment, apprenticeship, and further education opportunities. Thisrole focuses on career readiness, individualized advising, and employerengagement, while also collaborating with community agencies and workforcedevelopment partners. The Advisor plays a key role in empowering students, manyof whom face barriers to employment, to navigate career pathways successfully.
Provide one-on-one career advising, including resume development, job search strategies, interview coaching, and personal branding.
Plan, coordinate, and facilitate workshops on job readiness, career exploration, and soft skills.
Develop and maintain partnerships with local employers to generate job leads, internships, and apprenticeships.
Assist students in accessing career services, training resources, and job placement tools (e.g., Illinois WorkNet).
Serve as the college’s on-site representative at the local American Job Center (WorkNet Center).
Work closely with workforce development agencies to support underemployed, unemployed, and underserved adult learners.
Track and report student progress, employment outcomes, and workshop participation per grant or institutional guidelines.
Provide culturally competent support to individuals from diverse backgrounds, including immigrants, returning citizens, and economically disadvantaged populations.
Attend staff meetings, professional development, and relevant workforce/community partner events.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Adult and Workforce Education.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Experience in advising, workforce development, social services, or adult education.
Knowledge of WIOA programs, vocational rehabilitation, and related employment services.
Demonstrated ability to support individuals facing employment barriers.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital job platforms.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Available to work select evening hours as needed.
Preferred:
Bilingual (Spanish/English or other languages common to the community served).
Experience with employment-focused grants and case management software.
Certification in career services (e.g., GCDF, CCSP) a plus.

Compensation: The pay for this position will be determined by your experience, education, and qualifications.
