Summary:

FILL is looking for an NDT Application Engineer, who can support our customers with sophisticated, automated FILL NDT Systems in North America. Working in restricted areas (ITAR) is required, therefore US CITIZENSHIP OR GREEN CARD IS A PREREQUISITE FOR CONSIDERATION. This role supports all aspects of the product life cycle, and starts with assistance of the Sales Process, by performing Studies on customer parts, and ends with After Sales Support at our customers premises. A background in Robotics including Offline Programming is a key requirement for this role, and ideally this is supplemented with Ultrasonic Inspection skills.

Essential Functions:

  • Set up, commissioning, and service support of complex (Siemens Sinumerik ONE) NC controlled NDT Systems, which utilize multiple end-effectors for the inspection manufactured parts
  • Focus on Ultrasonic Inspection of CFRP (but also metallic) components
  • Optimization of test parameters according to customer specifications
  • Strong background in technical troubleshooting within machinery or complex industrial systems
  • Independent, structured, and solution-oriented work style – with a proactive, results-driven mindset and the ability to manage complex technical and organizational challenges
  • Conducting trainings and finalization of documentation/training books
  • Interdisciplinary understanding of Mechatronic Systems
  • Experience in mechanical and electrical set up of industrial equipment
  • Troubleshooting on PLC & NC Systems (basic knowledge highly appreciated)
  • Willingness to take responsibility of complex robot-based inspection systems
  • A customer-centric mindset with excellent oral and written communication skills

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position will not have any direct supervisory responsibility, but on an as needed basis this role will act in a technical leadership capacity relative to projects related to FILL applications.

Work Environment:

This assignment will be mostly remote, with an office location in Chicago, IL. During installation and commissioning of Fill Systems, engineer will be dispatched 2 – 4 weeks at a time to various customer locations across the U.S. For training and commissioning purposes the engineer might be required to travel to the FILL Company Headquarters located in Gurten, AUSTRIA on an as needed basis for 2 – 4 weeks at a time. Candidate should be open to relocation within the continental United States, subject to discussion during the interview process and regional market need.

  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period.
  • Moderate to occasional heavy lifting (100lbs) is required occasionally, especially during installation & commissioning.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness required.

Expected Hours of Work:

This is a non-exempt level, full-time position with standard working days/hours of Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm with overtime as necessary to complete required tasks. Actual working hours may vary.

Travel:

Travel to potential targets for FILL Solutions in the USA Region will be required, along with travel to specific customers where Aerospace Manufacturing Systems and/or NDT solutions are known to be needed. Travel will also be required for commissioning of NDT systems on an as needed basis. For training and commissioning purposes the engineer might be required to travel to the FILL Company Headquarters located in Gurten, AUSTRIA on an as needed basis for 2 – 4 weeks at a time.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science or similar technical degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Software, or Industrial Engineering
  • Technical Accredited Trade School Degree and/or 5+ years applicable industry experience
  • UT level II or III certification is considered as a plus
  • Strong technical & practical understanding of aerospace composite manufacturing and inspection process is preferred
  • German as a second language is highly desirable
  • US Citizenship and/or current Green Card is required for consideration
