Your responsibilities

Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue further academic qualifications outside of their work responsibilities

The Research Associate candidate will develop innovative synthetic methodologies to produce disordered metal nitride-based nanoparticles and heterostructures, with an emphasis on uncovering emergent properties at nanoscale. The research will involve synthesizing and optimizing these heterostructures, alongside laboratory studies to assess their photo-electro-catalytic behavior. The candidate will also explore alternative materials or conditions to enhance functionality.

Another key aspect of the work will be designing, proposing, and executing experiments using large scale X-ray facilities such as synchrotron, XFEL, or other relevant methods to identify and characterize photo-catalytic active sites. The candidate will work independently while collaborating closely with other members of the CUI-AIM II consortium and Koziej Lab.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • synthesis and characterisation of disordered nanoparticles
  • preparing and conducting experiments at synchrotron facilities, including beamtime proposal development, sample characterization using laboratory tools, and simulations
  • designing and fabricating samples for conformal mapping and other spatially-resolved analyses
  • collaborating on time-resolved experiments of disordered metal nitrides within the framework of the cluster of excellence "CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter”, including sample delivery and pump-probe measurements

This research aims to deepen the understanding of disordered nanoscaled structures and their photo-electro-catalytic applications, contributing to the advancement of efficient, tunable materials for energy and environmental applications.

Your profile

A university degree in a relevant field.

Applicants should have a master’s degree in chemistry, nanoscience, materials science, physics, or a related field. Students with interdisciplinary and international experience are highly encouraged to apply.

We are seeking highly motivated candidates with a strong interest in nanoscience and materials research. A proven, strong background in solid-state physics or chemistry is preferred.

Prior experience with colloidal synthesis of nanomaterials and their characterization (SEM, TEM, PXRD) is highly preferred.

A strong preference will be given to candidates with experience of X-ray spectroscopic methods (synchrotron/XFEL, pump-probe) and a solid understanding of data analysis and interpretation.

Hands-on experience with other laboratory techniques (UV-VIS, FTIR, TGA, AFM, etc.) are assets.

Excellent communication skills are essential. Fluency in English is required, as the position involves working in an international research environment.
