The Cluster of Excellence "Climate, Climatic Change, and Society” (CLICCS) investigates climate dynamics and climate-related social dynamics, as well as the interactions between the two. To this end, we are looking for colleagues from a wide range of disciplines, including the natural sciences as well as the social sciences. Your responsibilities
Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications. They may also pursue doctoral studies outside of working duties.
The position allows for pursuing qualification for a PhD degree. A successful applicant will develop wetting and drying schemes for a numerical coastal ocean model (ICON-Coast). They will perform detailed analysis of the numerical method with respect to conservation and stability properties, will implement the method considering the model infrastructure and performance, will perform rigorous testing and documentation. It is expected that results of this research and development project are published in scientific literature and presented at international conferences.
Your profile
A university degree in a relevant field.
- proven background in numerical methods development in particular for partial differential equations
- proven background in earth system related modeling
- experience with high performance computing
- profound programming skills, preferably in C/C++ and/or Fortran
- excellent communication skills in English
- ability to work in an interdisciplinary and intercultural environment
