The DESY group "Information Technology" (IT) is participating in a variety of high profile national and European projects, evaluation new and innovative IT technologies.
Recently, a new research group on computational and data science methods was launched within IT. The focus is to develop novel, efficient algorithms and methods to cope with the big amounts of data that require processing (incl. machine learning), as well as to develop innovative simulation technologies, for example for particle and multiscale problems.
About your role:
- Research on data-driven methods, particularly on data reduction and compression in interaction with the photon science groups
- Supporting research on multiscale and data-driven simulation technologies (molecular-continuum simulations)
- Supporting research in heterogeneous computing, in particular hardware-portable programming for high energy physics
- Supporting the IT head at coordinating the research group
- Teaching support (with UHH)
- Supporting the application for third-party projects

About you:
- Finished PhD in computer science, applied mathmatics, physics or other related disciplines
- Experiences in efficient and data science programming (e.g., Python, C/C++)
- Interdisciplinary skill set, open for teamwork and collaborative action
- In full command of English, preferably also German
- Interested in teaching and education (giving exercises, advising undergrad students, etc.)
