About the role

The Lead Pricing Strategy is a key connector between the Seafreight heads, Trade Management and Local Trade and Pricing teams, working closely with the Pricing/Procurement departments without directly managing their operational activities. This role provides critical selling guidance and strategic support across different countries and markets while maintaining a global guidance, helping shape pricing/procurement strategies and sales forecasts. The Lead Pricing Strategy is responsible for guiding the Seafreight Heads and Trade and Pricing teams on procurement trends, evaluating risks, and delivering gross profit predictions. It will lead risk evaluation meetings and communicate key updates and strategies to ELT-level executives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic guidance and analysis:

    • Define Forto’s pricing strategy in line with the company business plan, ensuring solutions are adaptable to specific markets.

    • Improve and create reporting dashboards that serve as the foundation for data-driven decisions throughout the Trade and Pricing organization.

  • Selling Guidance & Strategic Support:

    • Provide expert selling guidance to the Country Heads of seafreight, tailored to specific countries and markets, ensuring alignment with procurement strategies and market demands.

    • Advise the Local Trade and Pricing teams on pricing, supply chain considerations, and other market dynamics that impact product selling strategies.

  • Gross Profit Prediction:

    • Work closely with the procurement and finance teams to forecast gross profit margins based on market analysis, product trends, and procurement data.

    • Deliver actionable insights into how procurement trends influence sales performance and profitability in various regions.

  • Risk Evaluation & Management:

    • Collaborate with the procurement, trade + pricing and BP finance teams to evaluate potential risks, including supply chain disruptions, market fluctuations, and geopolitical factors.

    • Lead regular risk meetings with key stakeholders to discuss procurement-related risks and potential impacts on the commercial business.

  • ELT-Level Communication & Reporting:

    • Provide regular updates to ELT-level executives, highlighting procurement and sales trends, risk factors, and their potential financial impact.

    • Develop and present strategic reports to senior leadership that summarize key insights from procurement data, risk evaluations, and market conditions.

  • Market Analysis & Insights:

    • Conduct thorough market research to stay informed on industry trends, competitor activities, and regional supply chain factors that affect procurement and sales.

    • Use data to provide commercial teams with actionable insights on the best-selling strategies and pricing approaches for different markets.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:

    • Serve as the liaison between the commercial, procurement, and trade management teams to ensure seamless communication and alignment of objectives.

    • Collaborate closely with procurement teams to understand and communicate supply chain capabilities, constraints, and opportunities to the commercial team.

  • Continuous Improvement:

    • Identify opportunities to optimize procurement strategies to enhance profitability across various markets.

    • Drive initiatives that improve the commercial team’s understanding of procurement dynamics and supply chain challenges.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 8+ years of experience in trade management, pricing, or procurement strategy, with a strong understanding of how procurement impacts sales and gross profit.

  • 5+ years of experience within the Freight Forwarders industry(Ocean, Air Freight), is highly preferred.

  • Proven track record of working closely with senior leadership (C-Level/VP/Director) to influence and execute strategic pricing initiatives.

  • Demonstrated success in advising commercial/sales teams with pricing guidance and strategic recommendations to support bids, tenders, and negotiations.

  • Proficiency in pricing models/frameworks, financial analysis, and Freight pricing market intelligence.

  • Developed insights to improve visibility and decision-making around pricing performance.

  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize data into actionable insights for sales and commercial teams.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with both procurement teams and senior commercial leadership.

  • Ability to present complex market and procurement data in a clear, concise manner to C-level executives.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, matrixed, and data-driven environment.
