The Engineering Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing aspects of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) management throughout the engineering and construction phases of the Greenfield Project. This role ensures that activities are conducted in compliance with relevant German safety regulations, company policies, and industry’s best practices. The Safety Manager acts as the primary point of contact for safety matters on-site, proactively identifying risks, suggesting and implementing control measures and fostering a culture of safety among all project stakeholders.
Aufgaben
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Safety Strategy & Management: Develop, implement, and continuously improve safety management systems, policies, and procedures tailored to engineering and construction environments.
- Risk Assessment: Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and hazard analyses for all project activities, ensuring effective mitigation measures are established and maintained.
- Compliance & Regulation: In collaboration with the SiGeko, ensure full compliance with local, national, and international safety regulations, standards, and codes of practice.
- Incident Management: In collaboration with contractor safety teams, Lead investigations of incidents, accidents, and near-misses; identify root causes; and ensure corrective actions are implemented and lessons learned are shared.
- Training & Awareness: Deliver safety inductions, toolbox talks, and ongoing training sessions to employees, contractors, and visitors to promote safety awareness and competency.
- Site Inspections & Audits: Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and safety walks to verify adherence to safety protocols and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and regulatory bodies to align safety objectives and resolve safety concerns. Confident and clear in communication and behavior.
- Reporting & Documentation: Maintain accurate records of safety activities, incidents, and compliance documentation; prepare regular reports for management and regulatory authorities.
- Emergency Preparedness: Working with local agencies, develop and test emergency response plans, ensuring readiness for potential incidents and effective coordination during emergencies.
- Continuous Improvement: Champion a culture of continuous improvement by identifying and implementing innovative safety solutions and best practices.
Qualifikation
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health & safety, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Professional safety certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, CSP, IOSH) are highly desirable.
- Minimum of 5 years’ large project experience in Germany in a safety leadership role within engineering or construction projects, preferably in large-scale or complex environments.
- In-depth knowledge of German safety legislation, regulations, and standards relevant to engineering and construction.
- Strong organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to influence multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in safety management systems and relevant software tools.
- High level of integrity, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to risk management.
- Fluency in German and English; additional languages such as French, or Dutch is a plus
