The Heidelberg Center for Transcultural Studies (HCTS) at Heidelberg University is looking to fill a full-time, fixed-term position as
Akademischer Mitarbeiterin (f/m/d)
Research Scholar and Lecturer
within its Department of Visual and Media Anthropology.
Your tasks:
- Teaching two courses per semester (or 4 "Semesterwochenstunden”), predominantly in the Master of Transcultural Studies (MATS), but also in relevant study programs at the South Asia Institute, as well as in the BA and MA Anthropology
- Develop and implement an own research agenda aligned to the that of the department and the institute
- Supporting the professor for Visual and Media Anthropology in research, teaching and supervision of students, and assisting in organizational and administrative affairs
- Participating actively in research activities and administrative work of the Heidelberg Center for Transcultural Studies and the Center for Asian and Transcultural Studies, and appropriating wider duties in academic serve within the university
Your profile:
- A completed, high-quality doctoral dissertation in Anthropology with a focus on Asia, in particular, transregional and transcultural facets thereof
- An excellent command of English and good knowledge of German and at least one Asian language
- An excellent track record in teaching and publishing, and experience in the acquisition of funding for and the management of academic research projects
- A thematic specialization that may range from social media and movements to urban anthropology, to mobilities studies and cultural heritage
The position will be fixed-term in accordance with the German academic labour law. The salary is according to TV-L of the German public service salary scale. The position is available by April 1, 2026, can also be filled part-time.
