Laboratory Manager with research and bioinformatics expertise (f/m/d)
We are seeking a highly motivated candidate to drive the management and support of a new research group′s laboratory at the Center for Molecular Biology Heidelberg (ZMBH), located on the vibrant research campus "Im Neuenheimer Feld”. The role will focus on Synthetic Microbiology and Synthetic Genomics, utilizing state-of-the-art laboratory automation to construct and characterize DNA parts, as well as synthetic chromosomes within a diverse range of microorganisms.
Your tasks:
- Management of the laboratory, including establishing databases for documenting materials (e.g. strains, plasmids, synthetic DNA), procuring and inventorying laboratory supplies
- Training new team members and guests on relevant aspects of the laboratory
- Establishing maintenance and operating procedures for an acoustic nanoliter dispenser (Echo) and other automation equipment as well as Nanopore sequencers
- Assisting in the establishment and optimization of standard operating protocols, making them available in a standardized manner within the internal electronic lab book environment ("Wiki”)
- Supporting team members and collaboration partners with bioinformatic/computational tasks
- Managing and supporting international research projects with regard to organizing meetings and reporting to the funding body
- Own research projects within the scope of the lab, focusing on Synthetic Biology and Synthetic Genomics, and relying on proficiency in generating, analyzing, and interpreting large data sets (e.g. Next Generation Sequencing and proteome data)
- Being an integral part of the group and helping to shape the open and welcoming international atmosphere
Your profile:
- An MSc in Molecular Biology with a strong background in Bioinformatics and Synthetic Biology is required with published research articles in international journals
- GenTSV certificate of competence or willingness to obtain within 12 months of starting the role
- A first aid certificate or willingness to obtain one within 12 months of starting the role
- Excellent communication skills in English; Spanish skills are advantageous for coordinating international research projects. German is an advantage but not required
- An eye for detail and the ability to explain complex scientific concepts clearly and concisely to a broad audience
- At ease in an international environment, with a willingness to undertake research stays abroad

Remuneration, depending on qualifications, is up to a full-time TV-L EG 10. Part-time employment is a possibility. In order to set up the lab and establish standard operating procedures in the research group, the initial contract will be for four years with the possibility of extension after positive evaluation.
