The following full-time (39,5h/week) position is available at IMSEAM, Heidelberg University, in collaboration with the Institute for Basic Science Center for Nanomedicine (Seoul, Korea), to begin as soon as possible.

PhD Position in Sonogenetics (f/m/d) Ultrasonic Hardware and Wave Propagation

The project MSGNeuro is looking for a highly motivated PhD student to explore the exciting field of sonogenetics and ultrasonic neurostimulation.

You will work in the Micro, Nano, and Molecular Systems group at Heidelberg University (PI: Prof. Dr. Peer Fischer), under the supervision of Dr. Athanasios Athanassiadis and Dr. Dimitris Missirlis. This project will involve the design, modelling and construction of custom acoustic transducers and holographic lenses to shape acoustic fields in vitro and in vivo, as well as investigating and tailoring the interaction of ultrasound in tissues and with engineered microstructures such as antibubbles.

Ideal candidates will have a background in physics or mechanical/electrical engineering, a hands-on approach to problem solving, and a solid foundation in acoustics or other wave propagation. We’re seeking highly motivated students with a strong interest in interdisciplinary work with clinical potential.
