Your role

As Manager Molecular Decoding (NMR) (m/f/d) you will lead a team for Molecular Decoding within our Food & Beverage Business Unit.
This role is a fulltime position to be located in our Global Headquarter in Holzminden, Germany.

• You lead a team for structure elucidation via NMR and substance isolation
• You coordinate, develop and deliver the following services on a global level
• Structure Elucidation as a service
• Substance isolations as a service
• Instruments as a Service (Prep)
• You develop and establish a clear vision for the department’s focus and drive improvements within the internal and external analytical research & ecosystem.
• You improve the currently available tools such as MPLC, SFC, prep. LC(MS), PGC for substance isolation.
• You use the broad spectrum of NMR spectroscopy related techniques to reveal structural information as well as information about physicochemical parameters and supramolecular interactions in relevant applications.
• You foster the use of high-field and benchtop NMRs for research synthesis, production scale up and in-process-analytics.
• You provide information for authenticity analytics such as SNIF NMR and elaborate machine learning applications with coworkers of the department and external researchers.
• You use NMR as a valuable data source for further machine learning applications for raw material and product categorization.
• You are responsible for establishing new techniques for structure elucidation and substance isolation.
• You cooperate with universities in respective research fields and inform stakeholders. Additionally, you provide support and access to these advancements for internal customers.
• You ensure valid documentation of working instructions, operation procedures, policies and best practices within IMS.
• You are responsible for safety management and chemical management in the department.

About you

• You successfully completed your doctorate in Chemistry, Food chemistry, Biochemistry, or comparable qualifications.
• You have a proficient background in NMR structure elucidation and compound isolation techniques like preparative chromatography. Ideally with experience in flavor and fragrance chemistry.
• Ideally, you have knowledge about hyperpolarization, qNMR, DOSY, STD NMR, SNIF NMR and other advanced NMR methodologies.
• You are experienced in interpreting GC, LC-MS, GC-MS, IR datasets
• You have an innovative and flexible mindset embracing creativity and digitalization. Thus, experience in data science and AI is a plus.
• You have proven experience in Lab Management and Lab Safety as well as knowledge of natural compounds that relate to food and aroma ingredient, their analysis and processing methods. Ideally experience in methods to evaluate the authenticity of ingredients.
• You are experienced in using IT tools like MestreNova, Chromatography Data Systems, SAP.
• You are proficient in German and English, additional languages are a plus.
