Your Role
We are looking for a (Senior) Expert (m/f/d) in Human Toxicology who will play a central role in coordinating cross-functional projects focused on the toxicological risk assessment of Fragrance, Aroma Molecules, Pharma and Flavor - guiding them from early development through to product marketing.
In this position, you will provide strategic advice on human safety to internal stakeholders and act as a subject matter expert for external customers using Symrise products.
Your key responsibilities:
- You perform toxicological safety/risk assessments.
- You perform toxicological information search and evaluation, study monitoring, QSAR predictions, and exposure estimation/modelling.
- You maintain databases of Symrise-owned toxicity studies and risk assessments.
- You support chemical notifications (e.g., REACH) and product-specific dossiers (e.g., SCCS submissions).
- You support the development and marketing of Symrise products and address customer requirements/issues.
- You provide advice on toxicological knowledge to Regulatory Affairs, Marketing & Sales, Research & Innovation, as well as to Symrise customers.
- You have the option to represent Symrise in respective organizations and their initiatives (e.g. RIFM – Research Institute of Fragrance Materials).
About You
- You hold an advanced degree (MSc/PhD) in Life Sciences such as Toxicology, Chemistry, Biology, or another relevant discipline.
- You have expert knowledge and practical expertise in performing risk/safety assessments.
- You have experience with toxicological risk/safety assessments within the chemical, cosmetic, food or healthcare industry, specialized service provider/consultancy or relevant health and safety authority.
- Having expertise in Regulatory Affairs is a plus.
- First experience with non-animal-based risk assessments (NAM & NGRA) is a plus.
- You demonstrate effective project management and coordination skills.
- You have relevant experience with the fragrance/cosmetics/pharma regulations (EU Cosmetic Directive, US FDA, SCCS, EMA) and/or chemical regulations (REACH, TSCA).
- You have knowledge in assessment tools (QSARs, read across, grouping, exposure modelling).
- You have a proven ability to interact effectively within a cross-functional, multi-disciplinary team matrix environment, being an opinion leader.
- You demonstrate attention to detail and uphold high ethical standards in the workplace.
- You are fluent in English with strong verbal and written communication skills; additional German language skills are beneficial.
