The Leibniz Institute for Composite Materials (IVW) GmbH is one of the world's leading institutions in the field of composite materials. We investigate and develop the entire value chain of composite materials "from the scientific basis to the component".
To strengthen our team in the "Design of Composite Structures" we are looking (full-time or part-time) for a
The competence field "Design of Composite Structures” focuses, among other things, on the load- and manufacturing-oriented development of optimized lightweight structures made of fiber-reinforced plastics (FRP), both for new applications and for the substitution of existing designs made from other materials. We use finite element software packages (e.g., ABAQUS), specialized meshing and CAD programs (e.g., ANSA, SolidWorks), and optimization tools.
Part of your tasks are
- Scientific work on research projects with a focus on lightweight solutions and medical technology applications using FRP
- Acquisition of research projects
- Presentation of research results at internal and external events
- Supervision of students’ research work
Your profile
- Highly motivated, proactive, and a strong team player
- Able to develop independent and creative tailor-made solutions, e.g., in the fields of biomechanics, prosthetics, and implant technology
- Value open and clear communication
- Collegial, cooperative, and characterized by a strong willingness to learn and perform
- Excellent German and English language skills (written and spoken)
- Above-average completed university degree (Dipl.-Ing., Master) or comparable qualification; preferred fields include mechanical engineering, materials science, aerospace engineering, civil engineering, medical engineering, or related disciplines
- Comprehensive knowledge in creating 3D models and CAD drawings, preferably with SolidWorks; ideally with relevant experience in finite element analysis
- Basic understanding of medical device regulations, standards, and approval procedures
