Senior Software Architect Digital R&D (m/f/d)- with salary details
Über diesen Job
We are Covestro. We are curious. We are courageous. We are colorful. We refine chemical material solutions with game-changing products. Let us empower you to push boundaries. Join us and our 18.000 colleagues now and together we will make the world a brighter place.
Do you love transforming complex technical challenges into elegant cloud architectures? Do you want to use your AWS skills not for "yet another SaaS app," but for real materials research – enabling climate-neutral polymers, sustainable foams, and innovative coatings? Then you're in the right place!
We're looking for an Senior Software Architect (m/f/d) to drive our digital transformation in research. This position is crucial for establishing robust, scalable cloud solutions that connect our R&D processes with enterprise systems. You'll ensure technical consistency across all projects, optimize our AWS infrastructure, and accelerate innovation through modern development standards.
In addition to our diverse benefits, a full-time position offers an attractive starting salary between €104,800/year and €127,100/year plus a variable component. The starting salary depends on your qualifications and professional experience.
What you'll work on with us:
Shape architecture: You design, develop, and implement robust software architectures for research and development projects – with a special focus on AWS cloud solutions.
Leverage cloud power: You deploy AWS services to realize scalable, secure, and cost-efficient data processing solutions.
Connect lab IT: You build bridges between laboratory equipment (IoT/OT) and our cloud platform – from data acquisition at the reactor to ML-supported analysis.
Evaluate technologies: You assess, select, and integrate tools, frameworks, and templates that make our dev team more productive – with full compliance and security.
Improve existing systems: You analyze existing architectures, identify weaknesses, and implement measures to increase resilience, security, and performance.
Close collaboration: You work with developers, engineers, and stakeholders from business, IT, and management to translate requirements into technical concepts.
Mentor & advisor: You support teams with technical consulting, best practices, and architecture guidelines around AWS, development processes, and platforms.
Drive innovation: You take a thought leadership role in designing new software products – from requirements gathering to structuring new projects.
What makes you stand out:
Must-haves:
Solid background: You've completed a degree or training in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) or something comparable.
Substantial experience: You have extensive, multi-year experience in enterprise software development and have already led several complex architecture projects from conception to go-live.
Development expertise: Instead of ivory tower architectures, we believe in applied architecture. You bring Infrastructure-as-Code experience and are happy to roll up your sleeves when it comes to blueprints, frameworks, and (prototypical) implementation of concepts.
Cloud know-how: You have practical experience with cloud platforms (preferably AWS, but also Azure or GCP) and understand how to build scalable, secure infrastructures.
API & Microservices: You're familiar with API design, microservices architecture, and enterprise integration (REST, message queues, event-driven architecture).
Language proficiency: Fluent German and English, written and spoken, are a given for you.
Nice-to-haves (make you the perfect fit):
Fullstack understanding: Our stack consists of Angular, Java SpringBoot, and Typescript for AWS CDK. Knowledge of these or comparable frameworks helps you contribute your expertise and discuss technical matters with the team.
SAP integration: Experience with SAP connections (ERP, OData, APIs) is advantageous for integration with enterprise systems.
IoT/OT experience: Ideally, you've already worked with laboratory equipment, sensors, SCADA systems, or industrial automation.
Regulated industries: Experience in chemicals, pharma, automotive, or manufacturing helps you understand our requirements faster.
DevOps mindset: Knowledge of CI/CD, container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), or Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
Mindset: You're a strong communicator, enjoy contributing your own ideas, and are excited to shape the next generation of innovative software products with us.
What makes working at Covestro special?
Curious – Impact in real research: Your architecture decisions enable breakthroughs in materials research – from sustainable polymers to innovative coatings. You work directly with researchers and see how your software solves real problems.
Courageous – Shape the digital transformation: We're radically modernizing our R&D IT: from legacy systems to AWS cloud, from monoliths to microservices. You have real influence and set standards that will have an impact for years.
Colorful – Diverse collaboration: You work with chemists, engineers, data scientists, and IT teams – bringing different worlds together. Different perspectives make us successful.
What we offer: 30 days vacation, 50% home office (more by arrangement), flexible working hours, bonus participation in company success, company pension scheme with innovative life-cycle model, sabbatical option, accident insurance, and much more.
Development perspective: Clear career path along a technical architecture career or toward engineering management.
