Imagine what you could do here. At Apple, new ideas have a way of becoming extraordinary products, services, and customer experiences very quickly. Bring passion, dedication, and a no-excuse mindset to your job and there's no telling what you could accomplish. Smart people and inspiring, innovative technologies are the norm here.
Apple's RF Systems Engineering team is seeking a passionate, self-driven expert with a proven track record in phase-locked loop knowledge and control. Our world-class team shapes the mobile market with forward-thinking concepts while maintaining full accountability for execution, timelines, and quality.
Join us to deliver leading-edge phase-locked loops (PLLs) for Apple's wireless products and help create a uniquely exceptional customer experience!
Description
In this role, you will be an integral part of our cellular RF Systems Engineering team. You will collaborate closely with transmitter and receiver architecture teams, RF design teams, digital design and verification teams, and firmware teams to drive PLL innovations — with a relentless focus on best-in-class performance under real-world conditions and clear differentiation from competing solutions.
Responsibilities
- Define and specify control and sequencing algorithms for PLL and clocking architectures targeting FR1 and FR2.
- Decompose 3GPP and system-level PLL requirements into detailed specifications for individual PLL building blocks.
- Define hardware/firmware algorithms with a focus on area- and timing-optimized implementations.
- Implement and simulate algorithms in MATLAB and C++.
- Develop innovative concepts to improve and optimize PLL control and sequencing behaviour.
- Author detailed specifications as input to design and firmware teams.
- Perform root-cause analysis and debug issues identified during verification. Support cross-functional teams in resolving defects.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience defining control sequences for digital and analog blocks within transceiver architectures
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Deep understanding of RF transceiver architecture, with specific expertise in frequency synthesis (PLLs, DCOs) and key metrics such as phase noise and lock time
- Extensive hands-on experience specifying and simulating phase-locked loop (PLL) and clocking architectures
Preferred Qualifications
- Solid knowledge of cellular radio standards at the physical layer (GSM, UMTS, LTE, 5G NR) and their implications for RF/PLL specifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective cross-functional collaboration
- Experience using AI tools — such as LLMs, AI-assisted coding environments, and simulation co-pilots — to accelerate design exploration, automate repetitive analysis tasks, and improve engineering productivity
- Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) with 3+ years of relevant experience in RF/mixed-signal architectures
- The minimum salary pursuant to the CBA amounts to EUR 81,580 gross per year for full-time employment. Actual salaries are oriented at current market salaries and take your qualifications and experience into account.
