Job Description
My client, a global leader in the energy and infrastructure sector, is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join their team in Mannheim, Germany.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified German lawyer to support large-scale, complex international infrastructure projects within a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
You will play a key role in supporting major cross-border projects, advising on legal risk, and partnering closely with commercial and operational teams to enable successful project delivery across Europe.
Applicants must be fully qualified lawyers in Germany and fluent in both German and English.
Key responsibilities of the Senior Legal Counsel:
- Provide legal support across large-scale international infrastructure and energy projects, from tender stage through to execution and project completion
- Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial and project agreements with international customers, partners, and suppliers
- Advise business stakeholders on contractual risk, claims, dispute management, and risk mitigation strategies
- Collaborate closely with project, procurement, and commercial teams to ensure legal risks are managed while supporting business objectives
- Support cross-border projects and coordinate with legal colleagues and stakeholders in other European jurisdictions
- Act as a trusted legal advisor to senior business stakeholders within a dynamic, international environment
- Contribute to continuous improvement of legal processes and risk management practices within the business
- Support management of external counsel where required to ensure efficient and cost-effective legal support
Qualifications:
- Fully qualified German lawyer (Second State Examination required)
- Approximately 5–8 years of professional legal experience, ideally gained within an international company or in-house legal department
- Experience supporting large infrastructure, construction, engineering, or energy-related projects is highly advantageous
- Strong commercial awareness and the ability to work effectively within complex, fast-moving project environments
- Resilient, collaborative, and able to build strong relationships across international teams
- Exposure to cross-border matters involving other European jurisdictions would be beneficial
- Fluent German and English language skills required; additional European languages are advantageous
The role is based in Mannheim with hybrid working available (typically 1–2 days in the office), offering a competitive salary package including bonus and strong secondary benefits.
