Who we are
Why Marvel Fusion
By joining us, you will be:
- Solving one of the most complex technological challenges known to humanity, harnessing Fusion on Earth
- Part of a highly purpose-driven team working on providing the world with clean, safe and abundant energy
- Working alongside world-leading scientists and entrepreneurs in the field of Fusion
- Part of a start-up where growth on a company and individual level is the default
The impact you will make
As a Controls Engineer you will help integrate and commission the control subsystems that bring our diode-pumped, ultra high-intensity lasers to life. Working closely with Marvel Fusion’s laser, engineering and software teams and with external suppliers, you will translate experimental and operational needs into reliable, automated control solutions. Your work is critical to achieving stable, repeatable and safe laser operation on the path to commercial fusion energy.
Your responsibilities
- Develop, program and commission realtime automation architectures and machine protection systems around Beckhoff PLCs for critical laser operation and environmental subsystems (motion axes, power supplies, diagnostics, environmental controls, interlocks, safety analysis)
- Create Python and C# scripts and tools for test automation, data acquisition and integration with facility-level control software and design engineering screens
- Communicate technical requirements and tailor interfaces in the early design phases
- Collaborate with system architects to ensure seamless integration of laser-section controls into the overall facility control system
- Define and document functional specifications, I/O lists, test plans and acceptance criteria; maintain current wiring and system diagrams
- Coordinate with external vendors and integrators, align timelines and quality standards, and support factory and site acceptance tests
- Provide on-site installation, troubleshooting and commissioning at partner facilities; international travel is expected
- Contribute to safety and reliability reviews and propose improvements based on best practices in industrial automation and scientific-instrument control
What you bring
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Automation, Control or Mechatronics Engineering or a related field
- 3+ years of hands-on industry experience delivering industrial or scientific control systems for complex equipment
- Strong working knowledge of Python and C#; familiarity with C / C++ or other system languages
- Understanding of real-time control concepts and common industrial fieldbuses and interfaces such as EtherCAT, Modbus-TCP, and serial protocols
- Excellent organisational and communication skills; comfortable coordinating with international vendors and multidisciplinary teams
- Fluent English; German proficiency is welcome
- Willingness to travel internationally for short deployments
- Flexibility, adaptability and a hands-on, can-do attitude
What sets you apart
- Solid proficiency with Beckhoff PLCs and TwinCAT (structured text, ladder or function blocks). Other IEC 61131-3 languages is a plus
- Experience integrating cameras, motors, high-voltage or RF power supplies and other instrumentation is advantageous
- Exposure to laser laboratories, vacuum systems or other high-energy scientific facilities is a plus
What we offer
- An opportunity to make a huge impact on the future of our planet by making clean, safe and abundant energy possible
- Flexible working, location- and hours-wise
- A human-centered company culture with super nice and supportive colleagues
- A great sense of community through team events and fun in and outside the office
- A modern office with a lot of collaborative space close to Theresienwiese in Munich
- Highly competitive compensation and benefits package
