Enabled by the high efficiency of electric propulsion chains and by allowing us to significantly rethink air vehicle design. These advances are opening up the design space and enabling us to look at new concepts and new markets previously impossible to envisage.
1XAD is contributing to several Airbus initiatives, for example the team is developing and testing electrical and hybrid propulsion systems in the frame of the Airbus ZEROe project, "next generation single aisle”, UAM, PioneerLab of AH and CryoProp Demonstrator.

Your tasks and responsibilities
Thesis detailed description:
For this thesis you will join the design team to work on drafting system test scenarios, integrating a variety of hydraulic components (valves, heat exchangers, pumps) for a liquid hydrogen (LH2) Storage System application. The focus shall be particularly on test scenarios to verify endurance & reliability assumptions taken from industry literature sources,extending the knowledge on design and sizing of a hypothetical future aerospace application.
Your work will contribute to improve the understanding of the available literature (component catalogues, industry standards) and subsequent pre-design & sizing of an appropriate test rig proposal.
You will take an important role in dealing with preliminary system level requirements and translate them into functional design trades,
iteratively supported by the creation of 0/1D simulation bricks and graphical representations to be used to support system trades as well as in creating a coherent testhouse proposal.
This thesis is planned to begin around the second half of 2026 for an ideal duration of 6 months (start date can be adjusted).
You will be helping to support future testhouse capability development that will be used to support Airbus development strategy.
Desired skills and qualifications
Enrolled full-time student in the area of aerospace engineering or an equivalent field of study, looking for a Master Thesis in Germany
First Experience with 0D/1D Simulation (Python, Simulink / Simscape)
First Experience with 3D CAD (CATIA)
First Experience in creating trade studies & presentation of results
Knowledge of industry regulatory environment is a plus
Knowledge of statistics / equipment reliability predictions is a plus
Comfortable working in English
