ABOUT FUTURAIL
Futurail is a leading technology startup and autonomy powerhouse based in Germany and France. We power the future of autonomous travel on rail with our holistic autonomy stack for self-driving trains. Our mission is to make trains even more attractive by offering frequent, reliable, cost-effective and low-carbon transportation, contributing to the broader goal of transitioning from road to rail. Founded by a team with extensive expertise in autonomous driving and rail, we are committed to shaping the future of rail transportation.
We are entering a phase of rapid growth. This is your chance to join an ambitious team at the forefront of autonomy and rail, working to transform how millions of people move every day!
JOB DESCRIPTION
Futurail seeks an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our autonomy team. In this role, you will design, develop, test, and maintain real-time software systems crucial for the safe and efficient operation of autonomous trains. You will work in a collaborative, exciting startup environment, with opportunities to contribute to a wide range of software development, machine learning, and robotics.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and implement software components for autonomous train control, including localization, mapping, obstacle detection, and collision avoidance.
- Build robust data processing pipelines for handling sensor data from autonomous trains, including algorithms and workflows for data ingestion, preprocessing, feature extraction, and storage to support downstream analytics and machine learning tasks.
- Take a leading role in shaping engineering practices and help steer the team through technical decisions and execution.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including commercial and hardware teams, to prototype, develop, and deploy innovative software solutions.
- Proactively identify and resolve challenges to drive the growth and enhance the success of both the team and the company
REQUIREMENTS
- 5+ years of experience in C++ and Python, ideally in real-time robotics, autonomy, or embedded systems; Rust is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to lead engineering workstreams or drive collaboration across teams, or a clear willingness to grow into such a role
- Solid understanding of perception sensors (LiDAR, camera, radar) and sensor fusion techniques.
- Familiarity with deep learning and machine learning architectures is a plus.
- Experience with robotics software stacks, autonomous systems, or rail/transportation domains is highly desirable.
- Strong problem-solving skills, pragmatism, and a collaborative mindset.
BENEFITS
- High-impact role: Have real ownership and visibility from Day 1
- Learning & development: We are committed to your continuous development and offer support tailored to your role and growth path
- Competitive compensation package: We offer a competitive salary, including a virtual stock option program for full-time employees
- Office in Werk1 - the most start-up friendly space in Munich: A cool and modern office in Munich's Werksviertel, with regular community events like weekly team lunches, monthly breakfasts, after-work events, and much more!
- Gym Club membership: We cover part of your Egym Wellpass subscription - for when your brain needs a cooldown and your legs need a warm-up.
Join us as a Senior Software Engineer in our Munich office and help accelerate the shift from road to rail. If you're excited about real-world impact, cutting-edge autonomy, and building from zero-to-one, we’d love to hear from you.
