Partial Home Office possible

At Helmholtz Munich, we develop groundbreaking solutions for a healthier society in a rapidly changing world. We believe that diverse perspectives drive innovation. Through strong partnerships, we accelerate the transfer of new ideas from the lab to real-life applications, improving lives.

As one of the world’s leading research centers, Helmholtz Munich provides a stimulating international environment for excellent research. The Helmholtz Institute for Metabolic, Obesity and Vascular Research (HI-MAG) at the University of Leipzig, Germany is part of Helmholtz Munich and aims to uncover the molecular and clinical underpinnings of metabolic, obesity and vascular disorders to enable precision therapies. Together with renowned scientists and supported by state-of-the-art infrastructure, you will have the opportunity to make important contributions towards scientific knowledge and the improvement of people’s quality of life.

The HI-MAG research group Childhood Obesity and Metabolic Research, led by Antje Körner, investigates the development, mechanisms and health consequences of childhood obesity. In a translational approach, experimental research, clinical studies and genetic approaches are combined. Our international and interdisciplinary team is closely integrated with the research structures of the Medical Faculty of the University of Leipzig, Helmholtz Munich, and leading local as well as national research consortia, such as the Excellence cluster LeiCeM, the German Center for Child and Youth Health (DZKJ), and our large children’s and adolescent’s cohort LIFE Child.

We have large, well-characterized cohorts up and running with a longitudinal setting and across the entire age range: LIFE Child (n~5900), Leipzig Obesity Childhood Cohort (n~3000), and Leipzig Adipose Tissue Childhood cohort (n~700), with deep phenotyping allowing for combining clinical, epidemiological, lifestyle and functional omics data.

We are currently seeking a research data manager (f/m/x) to join our team at the earliest possible opportunity.

Your tasks

  • Further development and implementation of research data management plans in the working group Childhood Obesity & Metabolic Research based on current regulations and best practices.
  • Conceptualization, management and maintenance of databases for ongoing clinical studies using REDcap.
  • Oversee the full data lifecycle: from collection, validation, curation, anonymization/pseudonymization and storage, to controlled access, sharing, archiving, and secure deletion, with adherence to the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data principles.
  • Advising and supporting researchers regarding data management best practice.
  • Participation in the development of research proposals and scientific projects on data management.
  • Collaboration with relevant internal and external interfaces (e.g. DZKJ).
  • Active participation in scientific projects and in publishing.

Your profile

  • University degree in life sciences, data science, health informatics, epidemiology, biostatistics, or a related field. Advanced degrees (e.g., MSc + MPH or PhD) are desirable.
  • Proven experience in managing clinical or epidemiological study data, preferably including large cohort studies with omics data. Familiarity with electronic data capture systems such as REDcap is expected.
  • Strong understanding of clinical research regulations and data privacy requirements including Good Clinical Practice, GDPR and other relevant frameworks governing clinical data in Germany.
  • High level of commitment to ethical conduct in handling sensitive patient data.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with researchers, clinician scientists, students and other members of the group.
  • Independent and meticulous working style, as well as excellent team skills.
  • Excellent German and English language skills in writing and speaking.
  • Desirable: R programming basic skills

If you fulfill all the requirements, you may be eligible for a salary grade of up to E 13. Social benefits are based on the Collective Wage Agreement for Public-Sector Employees (TVöD). The position has an (initial) fixed term of 2 years but may be extended under certain circumstances.

Managing Director Mike Frieser:

"We believe that diversity is the key to groundbreaking research and innovative solutions. Our flexible working models and remote options create a supportive environment for balancing work and family life.
