About us
ICBM is an interdisciplinary research institute for fundamental and applied marine research. The internationally renowned institute aims at understanding the functioning of marine environmental systems through close cooperation of the various scientific disciplines (chemistry, biology, physics, mathematical modelling) of its more than 20 research groups. Together with the Helmholtz-Institute for Functional Marine Biodiversity (HIFMB), ICBM represents the Oldenburg branch of the joint cluster with University of Bremen. The position is located at the ICBM in Oldenburg and is supervised by Prof. Bernd Blasius.
Your tasks
For the Cluster of Excellence OCEAN FLOOR at the University of Oldenburg, we are looking for a Data Steward with a strong focus on data management, analysis, and visualization of large scale genomic and environmental data. You will be responsible for the complex and demanding tasks of data collection, integration, quality control, and provision specifically for the requirements and needs of OCEAN FLOOR, providing scientific support and further development.
We are looking for an experienced Data Steward with knowledge of science data management. The Data Steward is supposed to self-reliantly organize the interactions and steps throughout the data life-cycle between project partners relevant to the fields of biodiversity and DNA analysis. These objectives require openness to work in a strongly interdisciplinary, international and cross-functional context.
Task Profile
- Data quality assurance and standardization
- Data organization and structuring, storage, and archiving
- Data analysis, visualization, and planning of workflows throughout the data lifecycle
- Development of metadata and documentation standards
- Interface between IT and research
- Consulting and training for researchers on the topic of data and research data management
- Creation and maintenance of data management plans (DMPs)
- Monitoring and reporting
- Active participation in the Data Steward Networks within the Partner Institutions, especially the Data Science Center of the University Bremen (DSC), the U Bremen Research Alliance (UBRA), and the National Data Research Infrastructure projects (NFDI)
- Close communication with the Cluster Steering Committee and the Research Areas
Your profile
Required skills and experience:
- Completed scientific university degree (M.Sc., ideally Ph.D.) in earth, environmental or biological sciences, applied computer science, or a closely related field
- Several years of relevant professional experience
- Knowledge of programming, environmental or biological databases, and data analysis is essential
- Background in research data management with a scientific and technical background closely related to the scientific field and data characteristics of OCEAN FLOOR
- Structured, independent, and service-oriented approach to work
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent English skills, German skills desirable
- Commitment, ability to work in a team, and independence, as well as a high degree of trustworthiness and reliability
