Airport Systems Operations Manager

Typical duties performed, include, but are not limited to oversight of daily operations to ensure alignment with departmental objectives and organizational priorities. Dependent upon service area, may manage and direct staff to maintain efficient workflows, ensuring productivity and high-quality outcomes. Develop, implement, and evaluate operational strategies, procedures, and best practices to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Monitor performance metrics and identify opportunities for process improvement. Collaborate with leadership and cross-functional teams to support departmental initiatives. Perform other job-related duties as required.

Bachelor’s degree required. Substitution: Two (2) years of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may substitute for each year of college education lacking. Six (6) years of full-time management experience required. Four (4) years of demonstrated leadership experience. Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to identify process inefficiencies and implement effective solutions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License required.

Additional Requirements:

• Must successfully complete a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) 10-year fingerprint-based Criminal History Records Check and employment background check and Security Threat Assessment.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and drug test.
• Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds.
• Must be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
• Availability for on-call support and occasional after-hours work for critical system maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Management Information

Microsoft Certifications:

• Microsoft Certified: Windows Server (2016/2019/2022).
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate.
• Microsoft Certified: Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals (SC-900).
• Microsoft Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate.

Other Certifications:

• ITIL Foundation (Service Management best practices).
• PMP (Project Management Professional) or equivalent leadership training.

Technical Skill:

• Proficiency in Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
• Experience with virtualization technologies (Hyper-V, VMware).
• Expertise in Intune, Entra, Exchange, and PowerShell scripting.
• Knowledge of Linux and VoIP systems (plus).

Leadership Skills:

• Ability to mentor and develop team members while managing hands-on technical tasks.

Duties & Responsibilities

Under administrative direction, reports to the Senior Manager of Information Technology. The Airport Systems Operations Manager is a hands-on leader responsible for managing the airport’s Microsoft Windows environment and associated IT infrastructure. This role ensures high availability, security, and performance of Windows servers, workstations, virtualization platforms, storage systems, and integrated components. The manager will supervise a small team, including a Senior Systems Administrator, while remaining actively involved in technical operations and strategic planning.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Oversight:

• Align Windows environment operations with airport objectives and technology roadmap.
• Develop and enforce operational policies and standards.

Operational Excellence:

• Ensure reliable operation of Windows servers, workstations, virtualization, and storage systems.
• Oversee lifecycle management for hardware and software.

Security Assurance

• Collaborate with Cybersecurity teams to implement robust security measures.
• Ensure compliance with TSA and industry security standards.

Performance Optimization

• Monitor system performance and implement improvements for scalability and cost efficiency.
• Utilize automation and scripting to streamline processes.

Technical Support & Troubleshooting

• Supervise and mentor the Senior Systems Administrator.
• Delegate tasks effectively while remaining hands-on for critical operations.
• Foster a collaborative, high-performance team culture.

Additional Responsibilities

• Maintain Azure Entra ID security and compliance.
• Implement proactive monitoring tools and develop automation scripts.
• Ensure timely updates and adherence to support lifecycles.
• Maintain accurate system documentation and operational procedures.
• Perform other related duties as required.
