The Department of Microbiome Biotechnology aims to harness microbial communities for various applications in agriculture and environmental health. We employ cutting-edge microbiological and molecular techniques to study the complex interactions within microbiomes and develop innovative solutions. The full-time position (40 hours/week) is initially limited to two years. Part-time employment (at least 30 hours/week) is also possible if desired. Salary will be based on your qualifications and experience according to TV-L up to pay grade 9a.

The Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy (ATB) is a pioneer and a driver of bioeconomy research. We create the scientific foundation to transform agricultural, food, industrial and energy systems into a sustainable bio-based circular economy. We develop and integrate techniques, processes and management strategies, effectively converging technologies to intelligently crosslink highly diverse bioeconomic production systems and to control them in a knowledge-based, adaptive and largely automated manner. We conduct research in dialogue with society, policymakers, industry and other stakeholders - knowledge-driven and application-inspired.

Your tasks

• Preparation and execution of microbiologicalexperiments (autoclaving, media preparation, cultivation of microorganisms)
• Handling S1/S2 organisms (isolation, cultivation, characterization, archiving)
• RNA/DNA extraction and purification, PCR and qPCR, gel electrophoresis, sterile work
• Recording experimental plans and results
• Technical support for PhD students
• Procurement of consumables and equipment
• Contribution to laboratory infrastructure and maintenance
• Participation in field sampling (animal facilities), execution of biotechnological and process-related experiments
• Microscopy and sequencing
• Statistical analysis and data visualizationare desirable.

Your qualifications

• Completed degree or vocational training in the fields of biology, chemistry, biotechnology, chemical engineering or comparable technical training
• Practical experience in microbiology and molecular biology, ideally with S1/S2 organisms
• Good command of English and German, spoken and written
• Independent working style, commitment, teamwork, communication skills, and solution-oriented mindset
• EU driving license class B and willingness to travel for work.
